About Anna

ALL TUTORING WILL BE DONE IN NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA DURING THE WINTER TIME.

I am originally from Moscow, Russia. I received my education in the United States. I have two Master's degrees; one from Touro College Graduate School of Education and Psychology. So I have a Master's in special education and regular education. I will be able to provide a proper (fluent) tutoring. I have plenty of experience in various fields and know how to adjust to each situation and learner. Currently, I am tutoring Russian for businessmen who do business in Russia. Rest assured, if you hire me as a tutor, you will have top-notch professionalism and learning experience. At the time being, I would prefer to tutor adults.

- I am 100% fluent in Russian (since birth)
- I am professional with a great track record
- I am actively tutoring others
- I am able to help a wide variety of people (casual learning, business learning, etc.)

I have been teaching Russian and ESL (English as a Second Language) for over 10 years. A language lesson include a variety of activities that combine different types of language input and output. To become engaged learners, students need to understand that learning a language is not the same as learning about a language.

Students need to understand that learning a language means becoming able to use it to comprehend, communicate, and think – as they do in their first language. I Keep the overall focus on communication, not error correction. I Teach students that mistakes are learning opportunities. When their errors interfere with their ability to communicate, they must develop strategies for handling the misunderstanding that results. I maintain the attitude that mistakes are a natural part of learning, I create a supportive environment where students are willing to try to use the language. When teaching students I use visual support like videos very often. Activities allow students to apply the knowledge they have gained with the instructor to situations outside. Activities include out-of-class observation assignments, in which I ask students to find examples of something or to use a strategy and then report back. I help students with homework if they had no time to do that at home. Students will never feel like they are alone in this journey of learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have two masters' degrees; one is Master of Early Childhood Education and Special Education, from Touro College Graduate School, New York, NY. I also took an additional program for bilinguals in order to work and teach for bilingual students I have over 10 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). I am fluent in the Russian language (born and brought up in Russia), and I am an active tutor, currently. I am able to serve a wide variety of clients such as those seeking casual, and business learning, among others.

I have been teaching ESL since 2006. During this period, part of my experience involved teaching ESL to immigrants and students with student visas, who were planning to go to colleges in the United States of America (USA). My role was preparing them for studying and living in America. The main focus areas were: grammar, reading, writing, communication skills, including survival skills in order for students to be able to adapt in America (a foreign country). I was teaching 2 ESL levels: beginners and intermediate level. I also taught English to children (of native English speakers) in New York where I worked as a lead teacher in school (kindergarten and first grade, in a mixed class and regular class).

Since 2009, I have also been teaching Russian to adults. I have worked for global firms where I helped senior international executives and technologists prepare them for public speaking, and build mastery of communication in the Russian language. I have also worked in a smaller engineering firm, where I the Russian language to Engineers who conducted regular business in Russia. My students have received recognition and awards such as "Best Russian Speaker", for their excellence.

My teaching approach focuses majorly on helping students understand that learning a language means being able to comprehend, communicate, and think in that language – as they do in their first language. I maintain the overall focus on communication, not error correction. I maintain the attitude that mistakes are a natural part of learning, and create a supportive environment where students are encouraged apply the language learned, without fear of mistakes. When teaching students, I use visual support such videos, very often. I also teach practical activities that allow students to apply the knowledge they have gained with the instructor to contexts beyond the classroom setting.
