About Hewitt

I have worked extensively with children, educating and guiding them as I undertook various careers. I have also worked for many years as a one on one support staff in the homes, schools and communities with children and youth. I have taught in the Public School System for four years and spent a great deal of time tutoring students in Arithmetic and Language Art. Presently, I do volunteer work tutoring Arithmetic to students. My goal is to continue working to improve children's lives.

I have a great deal of interests in witnessing the successes of students achieving their education. I have taught in the Public Schools in Philadelphia for four years since 2005 and have not had such opportunity to go back into the classroom. My deep love for the teaching profession has never died and will not cease to exist as long as an opportunity can be made available to me. As you can see my education and career skills have prepared me to assist students to face the future. My strengths in academia also lie in the area of government and its workings, including the complicated concepts of constitutional rights. My background in Education gives me the aptitude to specialize in the areas of reading and writing and critical thinking areas, apart from the core teacher educational concepts. I have obtained other trainings through an Online Program called “Cousera” and have completed both Verified and Non-Verified Certificates in English Common Law, International Human Rights Law, and Community Change in Public Health and Population Health with World Renown Universities participating in the instructional programs.

At the moment, I am enrolled in other courses so I can further boost and sharpen my academic skills, and will continue to do so as appropriate courses can be attained. I am very computer literate and I do spend appropriate lengths of time on the computer doing online courses and using various applications relating to different job assignments. I will like to be considered for this opportunity to become your tutor as I would prove myself with my skills from which many students can benefit. I am currently employed working with children and families as a Service Coordinator. I facilitate delivery of Early Intervention Services to children who are experiencing certain delays in their growth and development. I have been doing this for that last three years and have consistently worked with children and youth in foster homes managing their cases for the past seven or so years. My hope is to continue to make the kind of contributions I have been accustomed making for the better good of society.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked over three years in the Elementary Schools in the Public Schools in Philadelphia. During this time, I pursued an Education Degree at Arcadia University and graduated with a Master of Education. I majored in Elementary Education and completed the practical aspects of the teaching program while I worked full-time. The academic training at Arcadia provided me with rich and adequate resources towards the development my career, Similarly, my hands on experiences and extensive work schedule offered me the kind critical skills and knowledge required to become a competent elementary school educator. Classroom management base on my experiences has been a critical element in the education process. This piece of the puzzle, I understand can have a direct effect on students learning. For these reasons, I believe that my qualification gives me a chance to be a competent K-6 grade educator.

Social Studies

I have taught Social Studies in both elementary and middle school. Social Studies are a combination of civics lessons as well as matters of history and geography. It covers movements of people and studies of cultures. Social Studies opens up one's awareness about politics and government in their early years. It gives students insight about the framework of government learning the basic steps about a country's system of government. A middle school student will learn for example, the three branches of government in the US, to include the executive, legislative and the judicial branches. He or she will be enabled to better understand and break down the role of each branch and may be later able to distinguish each role or player(s) as they relate to some news report in the media.
