Dear Student,

Dear Student,
I moved to Philadelphia a year ago and retired from a long career as as ESOL teacher and art teacher in a inner city high school. I love the diversity of being an ESOL teacher - it's like taking a marvelous world tour without leaving the classroom. My students were primarily from Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic but many were also from Yemen, Nepal and Vietnam. I always felt that I was learning more than teaching being with young people learning a new language and culture. The school system had an deep commitment to the ESOL program and its students. All four divisions of language acquisition were addressed: speaking, listening, reading and writing. My students ranged from beginner to more advanced students, finally able to transits to mainstream classes. The use of technology was an important tool in etching and along with more traditional tools is a valuable asset in learning a language.
Both my parents were immigrants who learned English well and had successful lives so I have always had a special feeling for this experience. I would love to help 2nd language learners to gain more skills and confidence in reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. I have two masters degrees - one in Art Education and the second in ESOL. I have taught young children, middle school and high school students as well as adults. I enjoy teaching and admire and respect the difficulty in learning a new language and culture.
I look forward to learning about you and your specific needs to tailor your lessons to fit you!
