About Kristin

Hiya,
I'm Kristin, an artist and writing buff specializing in grammar, syntax, format and delivery. I also teach music performance. Language, whether in song or prose, is my niche.

I help students identify the purpose of their work and materialize said motivation in their delivery. Whether in oratory form, or something of a more theatrical nature, I work to enhance the embodiment of one's written works, so that they reach the ultimate potential of affecting its audience.

As a teacher, working in the one-to-one capacity in casual settings, and more formally in classrooms and workshops, I studied business plan development, music and social entrepreneurship at the DO School in Hamburg, Germany. I had the privilege of facilitating workshops with a diverse group of German students, speaking different languages and with varying ethnic backgrounds, teaching them vocal warming, breathing, and musical performance of American Pop music.

It will be my first time tutoring, but from what I gather in my work as a guest teacher, speaker and facilitator, my guiding principles will be the same. Text has a way of revealing itself in new ways even to its author. It becomes our privilege and responsibility, then, to take care in the way we structure a college application piece, a biography, or critical response, because most times, beneath the layers of what we thought we knew about ourselves, lies something untapped and potent. What I love about my work is that it positions me to conjure that effectiveness and potency out of students' writing.

What makes me outstanding is that I'm passionate about language as a kind of performance. I take pride in challenging students to self-reflect, and harnessing that insight in a structured, systematic way to relay a message that the reader can feel.

I've been training vocally for six years, and have had the pleasure of working as a touring artist because of it. I understand and emphasize the importance of vocal health coupled with authentic interpretation of melody and lyric. Vocal development, as I teach it, is as much about hard skills like understanding one's body, as much as it is about softer kinds of intelligence like character development, empathy and reflection. I'm great at teaching in this capacity, because I teach vocal ability as being a product of self-awareness and gradual growth in performance.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
