About Jude

I am fortunate to have been born with quite diverse talents. A published writer who has worked as a computer scientist at a cutting-edge R&D facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as an instructor of Physics at UW-Madison and, most recently, an instructor of Creative Writing at Brown University, I have found in tutoring the perfect outlet for both my diverse interests and my passion to help young people.

In working with each student, I maintain an interactive and personalized approach. I like to gently guide the student towards finding solutions to problems on their own, through aptly placed questions and prompts. This also allows me to be better aware of the particular strengths and places for improvement in each student’s learning pattern, and use these findings to fine-tune subsequent sessions.

I hold my tutoring at the highest standard possible. For regular student, I offer a free consultation session before we start, when I talk to you and your child about what you would like to achieve, and figure out an individualized plan for your child. Then periodically I offer free quick check-in sessions with parents so we stay working together as a team. You won’t be billed for my tutoring sessions unless you are completely satisfied.

I look forward to hearing from you and providing your child with the assistance they need!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

A math geek since 9 years old, I have scored 97+% in all major standardized tests. After working as a computer scientist for seven years, and a college instructor for four years at some of the most prestigious colleges, I both know the inside workings of mathematics and how to guide young people through the process of learning, and make it interesting.

Algebra 2

A former college instructor for physics and computer science at top 10 US universities, including Brown University and Univ. of Wisconsin at Madison, I both know the inside workings of mathematics and how to guide young people through the process of learning, and make it interesting. While working with younger students I try to make it fun by incorporating math games as part of each lesson, which has proven to be quite effective.

Calculus

Math geek from nine, I started tutoring highs school math since college (more than 20 years ago). As a physicist and a computer science major, I solved sets of partial differential equations by hand to keep my mind lean and mean -- and I can show you how to keep your mind in the most fit condition.

GRE

I scored 97%+ in all sections when I first took GRE more than a decade ago. I currently have several GRE students, especially for the Quantitative section. In my opinion, GRE math is actually simpler than SAT math, but trickier -- it requires a different way of thinking. I have been successful in teaching my students the particular ways of thinking necessary for GRE, as they all report significant increase in confidence in a few sessions.

Physics

I started tutoring high school math and physics more than 20 years ago. I also taught Physics at UW-Madison for three years, during which time I gave lectures, designed and gave feedback on homework and exams, and provided one-on-one consultations, in addition to tutoring physics on my own.

Precalculus

Having worked as a computer scientist for seven years, and a college instructor for four years at some of the most prestigious colleges, I both know the inside workings of mathematics and how to guide young people through the process of learning, and make it interesting. As I have a large number of students in AP Calc, while teaching precalc I focus on the concepts and ways of thinking that will be essential for a solid grasp of calculus later.

Reliable and Knowledgable!

Jude is tutoring my son in Pre Calculus. He has managed to help him turn a failing grade into a passing one. 'He makes it so much easier to understand" is something I hear after each tutoring session. Great communication and extremely reliable. I highly recommend Jude!
