Arcadia University (Master's)
I graduated Penn State in 2007 with an Elementary Education degree, and immediately gained certification for middle and high school years mathematics. I have taught elementary level classes, as well as 6 years of Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. At my last placement, I started an after school SAT prep class, and ran that for two years.
I no longer teach as a profession (due to Philadelphia School District budget cuts), but am happy to be able to do so as a hobby in my free time. I particularly enjoy the one-on-one time that private tutoring allows, and feel that it provides a great advantage to you, the student!
When I'm not tutoring, I'm working with medical students at a local hospital and volunteering my free time for a youth mentoring program in Philadelphia. I also like to run, watch and play sports, and spend my time on outdoors adventures!
I have experience working with students of all ages and ability levels, and can tailor lessons to different learning styles. I have 6+ years experience teaching elementary mathematics, Pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Statistics, and SAT/ACT test prep.
I'm really driven by success and want that from my students as well. Contact me if you're looking to get up to speed in your class, or pass the next big exam! Although I can teach a wide variety of math subjects, I particularly enjoy Algebra and Geometry - the two most heavily tested math subjects! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
