Hi, my name is Mary and I have been teaching mathematics for over 30 years, to students of all ages and abilities. I believe in a hands on approach to education, and can accommodate my lessons to all learning styles. I have taught from one-on-one to a class size of 35, but really enjoy teaching in a tutoring environment. This is because I can really devote my entire time and focus to that student. Teaching is a passion for me and I have many skills and techniques that I can use to support a student. I have written and designed both curriculum and lessons, chaired the mathematics and science departments, worked with Middle States Accreditation teams and special education students. My thirty years in teaching has provided me with many experiences and joys.
I have been married for 26 years. I love to cook and bake, read mystery novels, draw, and do needlework of all forms. I am passionate about my cats and love watching them play. The Food Network, Cooking Channel and BBC are my favorite TV channels. I listen to all types of music. I am look forward to meeting and working with you.
I have a BA in Mathematics and Physics and am certified for secondary education. I have taught all levels of mathematics, including the SAT and ACT areas. I also have created summer enrichment programs. My past students have commented that1 was able to help them see math in a different, more enjoyable manner, take abstract concepts and make them concrete, and most importantly relieve their fears and anxieties. I truly believe that math is a skill that can be learned - not a ability that you are born with.
If you hate math, feel discouraged, are fearful about the next test or just looking for some help I am the person to contact. I understand the frustration that you feel when math looks like an alien language - in grade school I hated fractions and struggled with word problems. I know that pain, but I can help you, so please contact me. Hi, my name is Mary and I have been teaching mathematics for over 30 years, to students of all ages and abilities. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
