About Patricia Mae

Dear Parents and Students,

My name is Trisha, and I am a first-year medical student at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. I am in the Philadelphia area, here to meet your tutoring and test prep needs!

As a graduate of both Brown University (B.S. Neuroscience, Class of 2013) and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (M.S. Biomedical Sciences, Class of 2015), I have 6 years of tutoring experience helping undergraduate and graduate students achieve success in upper level college and graduate school courses. With every teaching experience, I have been able to build relationships with students and their families, and take pride in helping students reach their potential and achieve their highest academic goals. When it comes to tutoring, I believe that students should be actively engaged in the course of their own learning. Students who work with me are encouraged to communicate their strengths and weaknesses in each subject in order to achieve the best results!

I have a broad range of tutoring expertise including subjects such as Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, as well as specialized subtopics such as Genetics and Neuroscience. I have scored in the 95th percentile or higher in several standardized tests including the MCAT, SAT, and SSHSAT (specialized science high school admissions test in NYC). I also have extensive experience in college and medical school admissions counseling.

Please contact me for more information, including availability, scheduling, and background info!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I attended Brooklyn Technical High School where I scored a 5 on the AP Biology Exam and went on to study advanced biology courses as a Neuroscience major at Brown University and most recently, as a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences candidate at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. I scored in the 95th percentile on the Biological Sciences on the MCAT exam, and will be attending a medical school at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in August.

Chemistry

As a high school student at Brooklyn Technical High School, I took the AP Chemistry exam on which I scored a 4. Since then, I've taken advanced coursework in Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, as well as Biochemistry at Brown University. I also scored in the 95th percentile on the Physical Sciences Portion (General Chemistry and Physics) of the MCAT.

Genetics

My training in genetics began at Brown University, where I worked as a Teaching Assistant for the course, "Genetics," took advanced courses in Neurogenetics and Disease, and put theory to practice while working in a Drosophila fly genetics lab on projects related to RNA editing. I continued my genetics training at the graduate level taking advanced courses in cellular and molecular biology, while working in an epigenetics lab in the Department of Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Organic Chemistry

As an undergraduate at Brown University, I took a full year (2 semesters) of Organic Chemistry, as well as Biochemistry. I went on to score in the 95th percentile in the Biological Sciences portion of the MCAT, which covers both Organic Chemistry and Biology. Teaching methods for Organic Chemistry will include the use and mastery of major MCAT test prep.
