Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I am a lecturer of Arabic studies at the College of Swarthmore. I have been teaching Arabic for 9 years now. I am familiar with the multiple texts that teach Modern Standard Arabic or an Arabic Colloquial. Communication and an emphasis on the 4 language skills are at the center of teaching approach. Also, the Arabic culture and history are part of learning Arabic, and so an equal emphasis is placed on the pragmatic usage of the language. Teaching students how to use Arabic language culturally is important.
