About Davinder

I currently work as a software developer using the Ruby on Rails framework. This is my second year professionally creating software. During my first year, I was the lead on our project. This allowed me to teach the Java language to 4 of my colleagues, 2 of whom had never programmed before. The success of our project relied on my ability to teach and thus I gained a valuable 6 months dedicated to teaching others how to program.

During college I mentored students in computer science and math. Many of these students did not have English as their first language, which helped me learn how to be patient and tackle lessons with different learning styles. I was also involved in an outreach program dedicated towards helping high school students. We were allowed to pick which topics we wanted to assist in, and I of course chose math. I got hands on experience helping high school students learn algebra, trigonometry, and calculus (differential and integral).

My tutoring method involves trying to find out how the student best learns, and catering the lessons towards that learning style. I am a big supporter of applying visuals to help solidify complex topics. I am more than willing to go the speed that is most comfortable for the student.

If you are looking for a strong tutor in math or computer science, shoot me a message!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Programming

I graduated with an Informatics degree with a focus on programming (both object oriented and scripting). During college I was also a tutor for students in the introductory computer science classes.

Since graduation (2014), I have been working as a software developer. During my first year I was the tech lead on my team. I was in charge of teaching my team members Java. I was the lead in charge of creating the front end of our application in Angular.js and then connecting it to the back end Java layer.

Currently, I have transitioned into a full stack Ruby on Rails developer. I have a solid background in computer programming and have mentored both students and young professionals in the recent years.

Elementary Math

I taught elementary students in math throughout most of my high school career. Currently a software developer who still uses math every day.
