My name is Alison S. and I would love to be considered for the tutoring job. I received a dual certification in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling from Eastern University in 2012 along with a Master's in Clinical & Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College in 2008. Since August 2012, I have been working as a high school counselor at a charter high school in Philadelphia. Prior to my current employment, I worked in the Colonial School District’s elementary and secondary guidance departments.
During these professional experiences, I have learned a vast amount about the role and responsibilities of a school counselor including behavioral support, emotional support, special education services, and post-secondary planning. I continue to be an active member of the education and counseling team by creating 504 Plans; collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure student success; contributing in the school’s IEP Team; administering student ‘lunch bunch;’ facilitating and writing guidance lesson plans; and consulting with appropriate community organizations to ensure student safety.
Along with my experience in education, I have also worked as a mental health therapist for over 10 years. For years, I practiced psychotherapy with children and their families at a social service agency in Philadelphia where I was responsible for making sure that all clients were receiving the best behavioral & mental health treatment possible. Before my work as a clinician, I played an active role within the School Support Program. This is an initiative funded by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) whose main goal is to increase behavior modification within the classroom. As a classroom group facilitator, I worked closely with teachers and counselors to ensure student success. Furthermore, my experience is not solely professional; I also value the opportunity to volunteer my time with organizations that help children with future academic and emotional success.
My goal as a tutor and school counselor is to assure a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate standards-based program for every student. I ensure that all students receive education, prevention, and intervention in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social development. I support today’s students in becoming successful learners and citizens.
