As an undergraduate at Temple University, I tutored two students on their writing skills for four years, helping them improve their persuasive and expository writing scores by two letter grades. As a student teacher, I spent ten hours a week helping seniors prepare research papers for the judgment of a graduation committee, and each student who sought my assistance passed. And as a tutor for International Education Opportunities, I assist up to six students with essay drafting simultaneously, generally improving each student's scores by at least one letter grade. In other words, I'm familiar with the elements of a strong, sound essay, and can help you achieve this level of writing proficiency.
Additionally, I am an experienced reading tutor. As a volunteer for The Center for Literacy, I helped an adult, low-level English language learner achieve conversational and literary proficiency within six months. As a clinician at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, I helped a diverse body of students improve their reading abilities by as much as six grade levels in as little as eight weeks. I've developed a holistic instruction method that improves reading comprehension at the most basic to the most advanced levels, and will work to move you towards independence as we progress with our sessions.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students.
