Hampshire College (Mathematics)
I am committed to helping students learn overarching concepts and the why behind math, not just how to do math. I strive to make math interesting, and relevant. And at the end of the day I help students understand what a question is asking and how to answer it themselves.
I have been tutoring for three years now and have been studying and excelling in math and computer science since middle school. My own grades in math and science have always been A's and I have helped students not just succeed, but help them understand, appreciate, and sometimes even enjoy learning math. I recently received my Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and continue to do research in math and math history to be a better tutor.
I particularly like to help with subjects like algebra, calculus, discrete math, linear algebra, geometry, abstract algebra, and most high school and college math topics. I am happy to help out with elementary school math as well, but prefer helping with upper level math.
For my Bachelors Degree I focused on how to make math accessible for people of all backgrounds and interests. If you are a person who is majoring in a STEM field but gets caught up on how complex and abstract math can get, I can help to straighten up concepts and clear up what is going on. If you are a person more interested in Humanities, I have also studied lots of the history of math and can give some of the cultural influence math has had through the ages, and how math is used in various humanities fields. If you have been searching for an approachable tutor who takes the time to figure out how a student learns and will change their teaching style to suit your needs look no further. I am happy to help. I can also assist in some computer programming as well such as java, python and ruby. I am committed to helping students learn overarching concepts and the why behind math, not just how to do math. I strive to make math interesting, and relevant. And at the end of the day I help students understand what a question is asking and how to answer it themselves.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I passed Algebra 2 honors in High School with an A+.
I have been tutoring Calculus for about three years now and served as a Calculus TA in college.
Have been tutoring discrete math for roughly two years. U did research in number theory (a type of discrete math) for my senior thesis. I took Discrete Math in college and received an A. Discrete Math is often the first time people have to grapple with different types of proofs and I help to explain the process of solving and writing out proofs effectively.
I took AP Computer Science A my sophomore year of High School. I received an A in the class, and a 5 on the exam. I have also since then taken 2 semesters of Object Oriented programming courses which were focused on Java as well as many computer science courses since then.
I have been helping out in logic for two years. I received my Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. I took a summer intensive on Logic in high school as well as doing some personal research in logic in college. Logic can often feel complicated and convoluted and I do my best to make it intuitive and clear. Explaining why we have symbolic logic and how to interpret it in a way that makes sense.
Have lots of experience helping younger students with some of the concepts in algebra. These concepts are often very different areas of mathematics which I can simplify and also know with great depth. This helps keep the topic interesting and relevant.
I have been tutoring Python for about a year now. I taught myself much of the basics of Python during my spare time. I took many computer programming languages in college including a course entitled "Principles of Programming Languages" in which I learned five programming languages in a semester, one of which was ruby which is very similar to Python.
I have been studying Theatre since my freshman year of high school. I started doing professional production work in Lighting my sophomore year of high school and have been taking college courses in Theatre since my freshman year of college and I've gotten an A or the equivalent in nearly every theatre course I have taken. I also am studying Theatre at Hampshire College.
