Hello! My name is Kate, and I am a 2020 Penn Law graduate. I also graduated Penn undergrad in 2011 with a degree in Economics, and I have more than ten years of experience tutoring students of every age.

I know that many talented students are struggling right now with the transition to online learning, and I am here to help! Some subjects are difficult to learn remotely in a group setting, especially as teachers themselves are trying to develop new teaching methods on the fly. Learning one-on-one can be much more effective for some students, and I always tailor my individualized instruction to reflect the pace and content that each student needs in the moment. I have years of experience working with students through both in-person and online tutoring, and not every teaching method works for every student. I'll find out what helps you succeed, and we will work together to learn the content that challenges you, and also to develop effective strategies to excel in this new online learning environment.

I am available for tutoring in a wide range of academic subjects, as well as LSAT, GMAT, GRE, SAT, and ACT. Please reach out if you are in need of personalized attention to supplement your remote learning. I look forward to meeting you!

Grammar,

Grammar

I love grammar! ...but I know I'm one of the few. I had an incredible English teacher in 8th grade who taught me everything I know about semi-colons, parallel structure, pronoun shifts, run-ons, comma splices, and a few even more obscure rules of writing. Not everyone has a great English teacher, but just because you don't know the rules doesn't mean they don't exist. Everything from college applications to term papers to timed essays is also judged by the quality of writing you present - grammar counts. It really only comes down to about 16 or so rules to know, so learn them! Invest in a skill that will remain impressive and useful for every piece of writing in your future.

Proofreading

Proofreading is a service I provide specifically for long-term projects like term papers and college applications. However, I won't just take your paper and return it to you the next day with all corrections and no explanation. I want to make sure that you learn the reasoning behind the corrections, so next time you won't need me!

I have worked with many families to provide customized at-home learning for a variety of needs, including formal homeschooling, short-term concussion recovery, and long-term illness. I work with parents, students, and in-school teachers to create an at-home learning experience that is creative and individually tailored to each child's strengths, weaknesses, and interests. I can facilitate an energizing, productive, and meaningful at-home education for individuals, siblings, or homeschool groups of up to six students.

"English" is perhaps the broadest school subject. It encompasses writing, reading, grammar, spelling, critical thinking, literature, analysis, authors, and the list goes on. Many students feel confident in some areas, while lacking experience in others. Spending a little extra time with an English tutor can help fill in the gaps that don't get addressed in every classroom.

The piano is an instrument that is close to my heart, and I love to share it with others. As a child I took 15 years of piano lessons (ages 3 to 18) and as an adult I have directed and accompanied musical ensembles on the piano for five years. This also has included teaching choir members about music theory and how to properly read sheet music, and I would love to help you learn these skills as well! I am trained in classical techniques as well as sight reading and improvisation. I am qualified to teach children and adults, offering instruction in both piano skills and music theory.

Knowledgeable, patient, very personable.

Kate went over grammar concepts as well as writing strategies. The remaining time before the exam will be spent strategies and core concepts for all three sections of the test. My son has really liked Kate's teaching style and the pace of the lessons and homework. The concepts he has learned have helped him with all of his subjects in during the regular school day. I would highly recommend Kate to other potential students.

Wonderful tutor, open to any questions and styles of learning

Kate has been teaching me how to respond to the essay portion of the GRE. We have talked about how to write a top score and the elements that go into this as well. Kate has helped me reach a practice score that is in range of exactly the score that I want before we have even finished our lessons!

Incredibly Informative and Professional!

Rian learned more in one hour with Kate than she did in her entire SAT PREP class! Kate is very knowledgeable about her subject and nothing is lost in translating that information to my daughter. Rian is very comfortable in the atmosphere that Kate creates. So very grateful for her help. We would highly recommend Kate to tutor your child as well! A sincere "Thank You" to Kate & WyzAnt.

Lucky to have a teacher of her caliber in South Jersey

Kate prepared my son for SAT. Though he had a pretty good score to begin with, she was able to evaluate him and help him in the right areas in a very short period of time. She helped him to score very close to a perfect score. She taught SAT Reading, SAT Math and SAT Writing. She is an excellent teacher and very pleasant person. I consider myself lucky to find her and hire her.

Wonderful tutor

Kate has worked with both my high school kids, one for SAT and the other for writing. She has been very helpful with the writing as her grades went to A's. We are waiting for SAT results, but are very hopeful as the practice test went up 220 points.

Theresa, 21 lessons with Kate

Extremely professional and thoughtful at the same time!

Kate is a true professional who is very committed to her tutoring! We took advantage of group tutoring sessions that were very helpful, especially prior to taking the SAT for the first time. Then, Kate provided focused tutoring based on the test results. We highly recommend Kate for SAT tutoring and imagine Kate would be excellent in any content area tutoring provided. Thank you, Kate!
