I am an experienced music teacher from the Philadelphia area. While completing my Master's degree, I gained a high level of expertise in pedagogy, and now have a nearly full studio of private students and teach for Play On Philly. I have been teaching for ten years and was raised by private music instructors who worked out of our home. Because I've spent my whole life observing music lessons, I'm very comfortable with teaching and have many different methods I use to tackle the individual struggles each student may face. I also have had a very diverse performing career, so I can teach all styles of music and tutor in history, pedagogy, theory, early childhood music, and many other musical topics.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken 3 years of ear training, and have tested out of it at a Master's level. I am proficient through recognizing all chord forms including augmented sixths and Neapolitan chords, recognizing all keys and modes, dictation of melody, harmony, and rhythm, and intervalic recognition through major, minor, augmented, and diminished intervals.
I currently teach third grade music, and have tutored at an elementary level for many years. I also teach private piano lessons to many elementary school children, and understand early childhood psychology and communications at a very high level.
I have taken 4 full years of music history, with an emphasis on Opera history in my Master's curriculum. I have worked through the Norton history of western music in full, and have passed testing in early music, Renaissance music, Classical and Romantic periods, Contemporary history and theoretical concepts, Shakespeare's impact on music, and Opera History from its creation to contemporary opera.
I began piano lessons when I was six years old. I have taught piano since high school, and then took piano classes throughout my undergraduate degree. I've been certified in proficiency in transposition, reading all clefs, harmony and accompaniment, and sight reading.
