Hello, my name is Moises and I love teaching and tutoring Spanish to students from different backgrounds.
My first experience tutoring students was as a volunteer at the high school where I attended. I worked there for one summer helping students in improving their writing assignments as well as helping them to revise their homework and classwork.
I also worked as a student peer mentor at the college where I obtained my baccalaureate degree. Working as a mentor helped me develop listening and communication skills that are essential when tutoring and teaching. Working as a mentor not only allowed me to familiarize myself with the different challenges students commonly face, but it also gave me the abilities to help students cope with obstacles, as well as to motivate them to continue furthering their education.
In addition, I have student teaching experience at the college level. I worked as a lower division Spanish Instructor for two years at the University of California, Davis. Working as Spanish Instructor gave me the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in teaching and tutoring college students.
As a current and experienced Spanish Teacher at private schools for the last 4 years, I pride myself not only for implementing comprehensive lesson plans that meet high academic standards but also in implementing a communicative approach in which students develop Spanish acquisition by practicing oral and written communication through communicative activities and interactive games. Through this method, students have the opportunity to acquire Spanish easily and it allows them to be more accountable for their own learning while having fun.
In order to better develop students' acquisition, listening comprehension, and oral skills, the language that I encourage in my tutoring sessions is Spanish. I use a friendly pedagogy that allows me to break down complicated concepts into simple examples that my students can grasp even when the language used is Spanish.
I look forward to meeting and working with students who want to learn or develop fluency in Spanish. Hello, my name is Moises and I love teaching and tutoring Spanish to students from different backgrounds.

My son has met with Moises once. It was a very positive first session. Moises was waiting outside with a binder full of activities when we arrived at our meeting spot. He spent about 15 minutes telling me about himself, showing me his various security clearances, and walking me through a sample lesson plan. I appreciated his diligence and professionalism. I could have left our meeting feeling like me son was in any more capable hands than Moises. Over the course of their hour session they did a series of progressive interactive activities. He gave my son a light homework assignment which, during the summer in particular, was much appreciated. My son has worked with other Spanish tutors and had positive things to say about this experience with Moises.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was an ESL student myself in high school. I was placed in regular English classes in 2 years and a half after having begun the ESL program. I was a literature major in college and in graduate school who graduated with high honors.
I have a Bachelors and Master's Degree in Spanish Literature and Culture with 6 years of Teaching Experience. I'm a native Speaker of Spanish. I'm a Spanish Teacher with expertise in teaching levels I, II, and III at the Middle School, High School, and College Level.
I took courses in World History in both high school and in college and passed them with straight A's. I'm knowledgeable about world history due to having being educated in two different countries with different cultures, languages, and worldviews. I travel abroad every 6 months.
