I am eager to bring secondary science students into the twenty-first century using a unique combination of education experience coupled with nearly a twenty year practical background in engineering and management. I hold a Ph.D. in Education, a dual Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and Risk Management, and a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and Biology.
I am subject certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Education, Middle Level Mathematics, and Middle Level Science. I served on the committees that wrote the Educational Standards for Science and Technology, and Environment and Ecology for Pennsylvania. Most recently, I worked with the committees that wrote the Keystone Examinations in Chemistry and Biology.
I have successfully taught a wide variety of science and math classes in both the Urban Public and Private School setting with courses ranging from AP Chemistry and Environmental Science to Algebra II and Pre-Calculus. I am dedicated, passionate and supportive of STEM education and the accomplishments of my students; believing that we all are capable of learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a BA in Biology and Chemistry. I have worked as a consultant for 25 years to a variety of industries, including Medical Research, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology and Genetics. While teaching in Philadelphia, I worked on several committed in Harrisburg in the development of the Keystone Examinations in Biology and Chemistry as well as with several STEM Educational Groups.
I have successfully taught a number of science and Mathematics courses and worked with the Pennsylvania Governors Schools for Environment and Ecology, helping to develop the State-wide standards and text, approved for high school level Environmental and Ecology Courses.
