Northern Illinois University (Master's)
Good day! I am an artist and graphic designer looking to share some of the knowledge and skills I have acquired over the years. I earned a BFA in Visual Communication Design with an emphasis in Illustration from the University of Dayton in 2001. In 2005 I completed an MFA in Painting at Northern Illinois University. I have been teaching drawing and graphic design courses at the college level since 2003. I also have experience working with children as a counselor and as an art teacher at summer camps.
My specialties are in teaching drawing and painting using graphite, charcoal and acrylic as well as digital illustration utilizing Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Beyond this, I enjoy tutoring in a wide variety of other subjects I excel at, including literature, reading and writing, and algebra.
You will find that I am flexible and patient and that I am compatible with a great range of ages and learning styles. I look forward to working with you! Good day! Help me get a better understanding of how to use Photoshop tools to make a convincing piece of art.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Adobe Illustrator: My personal favorite of the Creative Suite!
I have been working in Adobe Photoshop for over 14 years. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design with a concentration in Illustration as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Painting. I began using the program with existing experience in traditional darkroom skills, so working with digital photography came naturally to me. In addition to utilizing Photoshop frequently in my own work, I have taught college courses that either integrate aspects of Photoshop or focus entirely on the subject for about 10 years. Recently I completed teaching an Image Manipulation course designed for Digital Photography majors.
I earned a BFA in Illustration (2001) and an MFA in Painting (2005). I began honing my traditional drawing skills at age 12 and have not stopped. Drawing is my preferred studio art activity and has occupied the majority of my studio time in recent years.
During college, I studied traditional black and white photography, history of photography, and worked a job in the Photography Studio. I have experience shooting using a studio setup as well as a great deal of outdoor experience. In recent years I have been working almost exclusively with digital photography, shooting with my Nikon and processing my images using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop on my Mac.
