About Ryan

Hola a Todos!

I currently teach Spanish at Villanova University and Rowan College of Burlington County. I received my Master's in Hispanic Studies in the summer of 2016.

I have a wealth of experience teaching and tutoring second languages, and living in Spanish-speaking countries. In total, I've spent over three years living and studying in South America, mostly in Argentina and Chile. I have also traveled to Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and most recently Brazil, where I did field work last summer. I presented this research in April 2016 at the Brazilian Studies Association Conference at Brown University.

I have succeeded as an educator of adults, children, and adolescents, in group and one-on-one settings. During the 2010 school year, I taught English to middle and high school students in Calama, Chile, through the Chilean Ministry of Education's English Opens Doors program. Following my experience in Chile, I worked as an ESL instructor in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with Pensaris Corporate Training.

I have also worked as Senior Interpreter at the Villanova School of Law Clinic for Asylum and Refugee Services, translating and advocating for low-income, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking migrants. Social justice for these communities is something that defines my professional and academic pursuits.

In the fall, I will begin a PhD program in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas-Austin. I will be in the Philadelphia area until August 2017.

I'd love to share my passion for language with you or your child and look forward to speaking with you soon!

Saludos,

Ryan

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Portuguese

I did two months of field work in Brazil in 2016, and presented my findings in April 2016 at the Brazilian Studies Association Conference at Brown University. I received a scholarship from the Brazilian Studies Association for this project, for which I had to illustrate my language proficiency in Portuguese.

Spanish

I am currently a university language professor of Spanish.

Knowledgeable and confidence building tutor

Today we learn the pronunciation of vowels and the alphabet, had a short dialog in asking each other our names and how each other was and saying good day, evening and night. We touched on formal and informal. The lesson was a mix of lecture and lots practice. Ryan was well prepared. I am looking forward to learning more!
