About Lisette

I love sharing the power of education with others, and I look forward to working with new students!
I graduated from Harvard University with a degree in African History and Economics, and I was also a Pre-Medical student, completing coursework in all science subjects. While at Harvard, I tutored college students and high school students in advanced Math, Chemistry, and Economics.
For the next seven years, I was a high school chemistry teacher in Miami and New York City. I then ran a high school tutoring program for all subjects in NYC. I also spent several months in South America teaching English (I speak Spanish). Now, I am a Ph.D. student in Education (Teaching & Learning) at University of Pennsylvania.
My experiences as a tutor and teacher have given me knowledge of diverse teaching methods, and I feel confident in my skills as a teacher in both the one-on-one and group setting. Again, I love teaching, and I hope to connect with more students in Philadelphia!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

M.A.T., Secondary Science (7-12), Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I took an intensive organic chemistry course at Harvard and passed with an A. I subsequently tutored in organic chemistry while living in Miami. Furthermore, I developed teaching experience with high-level science concepts while teaching high school chemistry.

Piano

I have been playing piano for almost 20 years. My training is classical but I have experience playing jazz and contemporary piano as well. I sight-read music well and can teach you how to do the same. I have a basic knowledge of music theory so as students move past beginner basics I can begin to share some of the basics of music theory.
Music is really my passion, and I play piano almost daily. I would love to share what I know about piano and music with others.
