I completed my M.S.Ed. at the University of Pennsylvania in the Reading, Writing and Literacy program in January 2012 and currently hold a k-12 Reading Specialist certification.
I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2007, where I majored in English and minored in Linguistics. I am knowledgeable about English literature, as well as grammar, and expository writing techniques. I am a patient educator, and make sure my students understand the material before moving on. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my BA in English from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2007 and am knowledgeable in the study of literature, writing and English grammar. I've been a lifelong reader/writer and also minored in Linguistics as an undergraduate student so I have a strong interest in language/literacy.
As an undergraduate student I minored in Linguistics, studying phonetics, language acquisition, syntax, and other nuances of grammar. In graduate school I studied reading development, which included strategies and skills in phonics. I am a certified k-12 Reading Specialist in the state of Pennsylvania.
