About Sharon

Greetings. After years of studying and teaching, I have come to a simple conclusion. Each student is unique. No one classroom, textbook or instructional style works for everyone. As a result, I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your students or your own strengths and challenges. This is where we will start our work together. As a team we will determine your unique learning style and the best method to get you to where you need and want to be. As your coach, I will encourage, inspire and motivate you to achieve your best. I have spent years teaching at both the high school and university level. My degrees are as varied as my interests and challenges. I have successfully helped students with writing, organization, history, algebra, reading and test preparation. I am passionate about learning, teaching and writing. My own enthusiasm is contagious and will help to inspire you to overcome any challenges. I look forward to meeting you and working together. Greetings. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Dyslexia

In addition to many graduate courses in special education at OSU in fulfillment of my school certification, I completed my masters degree from Bloomsburg University with a specialization in technology for dyslexics using the Orton Gillingham method. The prototype was tested, successful and used in a local school district. I presented my findings at a reading conference and made many contacts who were also interested. Since I was not a marketing major I never patented it, but a similar version was introduced into the Philadelphia school system ten years later. My inspiration for the program was a child I was tutoring who was in the second grade. He is now getting A's in college history courses.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been trained as an Instructional Designer and have not only tutored elementary education students for many years, but I have special training in a phonics program widely used by many school districts.

In addition, I received education certification while taking graduate classes in education at OSU and teaching at a private school.

Phonics

I have been tutoring and trained in using the Orton Gillingham method. My masters degree in Instructional Technology included an internship with the university's reading clinic and elementary language arts classroom. Additionally I designed developed implemented and tested a CBT on phonemic awareness. My training in phonemic awareness also is used with dyslexics.

Reading

In addition to many graduate courses in special education at OSU in fulfillment of my school certification, I completed my masters degree from Bloomsburg University with a specialization in technology for dyslexics using the Orton Gillingham method. The prototype was tested, successful and used in a local school district. I presented my findings at a reading conference and made many contacts who were also interested. Since I was not a marketing major I never patented it, but a similar version was introduced into the Philadelphia school system ten years later. My inspiration for the program was a child I was tutoring who was in the second grade. He is now getting As in history.

SAT Reading

In addition to teaching writing and reading for over 25 years, I was a tutor in SAT prep at Princeton Review and Kaplan.

Writing

In addition to teaching writing at a University, I have taught ESL and college prep courses for over 25 years.

acting to inspire and motivate my son — Thank you so much for the opportunity to meet Sharon Cadden. She has been working with my son, Mike, for several weeks, and the differences in his work ethic, grades and approach to learning are drastic. She is a heartfelt educator, who not only is dedicated to the teaching process but who is also acting to inspire and motivate my son. We all adore her. She is above and beyond anything we could ...
