I've played guitar for over ten years and would love to help any aspiring guitar players with their playing. I've taught a few friends over the years, but never professionally. I took lessons for four years and have a pretty good grasp on music theory, but I believe you should learn to play the guitar first before you get to all the theory stuff. Playing is more fun anyway.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Hey there - Well I've played guitar avidly for a little over ten years now. I used to have a band in high school but when it came time to go to college that had to be put on halt. Anyway, I took lessons for about 4 years when I was younger and would love to pass on my knowledge to any new student. The best match for me would be a student who wants to play rock and hard rock electric guitar and who wants to increase their speed and playing ability. I am not a great jazz/blues/acoustic guitar player, but consider myself a very good hard rock and heavy metal guitar player. (Bands like Metallica, Pantera, Children of Bodom, Megadeth, Led Zep, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, etc).
I do know music theory and song writing theory, but to be honest they're probably not my strongest points. I can teach basic theory, chord and scale construction, modes, song formation, etc. But as a beginning guitar player, I urge the student to focus on playing the instrument before getting to the theory. Basic theory is simple and important and helps with improvising, but to me, just playing the guitar is satisfying and incredible amounts of fun. I hope to hear from you and look forward to helping anyone who wants to learn to rock.
