Marywood University (Graphic Design)
I am a graphic designer, photographer, and 3D modeler and animator who still remembers what it is like to be just starting out. I was effective in reaching out to my students when I taught at a graphic design school in the Tempe, AZ area, and love the enthusiasm of new students, and how it impacts my own work!
I have used these applications for a wide variety of purposes, and while they can be rather intimidating at first glance, the trick is to get to the basics and to remember what the designer needs to do. My teaching process is to have exercises interesting to the student, and then to break down the information into easy to absorb chunks.
I have been in the graphic design and photography fields for 25 years, and have used the skills I have developed in a wide variety of fields to do a lot of different things. While the technical aspects can become overwhelming, my teaching technique has me presenting the information in controlled, easy to understand sections and then move on as the student learns and uses the information.
I am very easy to talk to and am very enthusiastic about what can be created using these tools. I am always open to questions and to listening to the student's point of view and opinions.
My schedule is very flexible, and I am available from 9AM to 8PM, as well as any time on weekends. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have used Adobe InDesign for many years for multiple projects, from single page newspaper ads and business cards to multi-page, indexed books. InDesign has many features which I am familiar with for controlling content and color which may be obscure for the new user, but have a huge impact on the design and prepress workflow. I have a BFA from Marywood University in Graphic Design.
I have used Photoshop since 1995 for designing posters and flyers, signs, fixing and rebuilding old photos, retouching and color correction, and prepress.
I have used Maya in the past, but I am really interested in 3D Modeling and Animation in general using other software. I own Lightwave, but for the most part have specialized in Blender. The general principles for 3D design are the same for any software package, much like drafting techniques are the same even though different CAD programs are used.
I am a professional graphic designer, and have worked professionally in digital prepress.
I have a BFA from Marywood University in Graphic Design, and am self-taught in digital design using a wide variety of software, including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Multi-Ad Creator, Quark Xpress, and others. I unofficially taught coworkers on some of the more esoteric functions and features found in these programs. I taught at a graphic design school in the Tempe, AZ area.
I have been using Apple computers since 1998, and have used the hardware and operating systems in a variety of professional environments.
I have worked for large photo studios doing commercial and location photography, as well as doing color correction, image manipulation and image reconstruction. I do freelance work on my own, and have a large assortment of studio and location gear, as well as a portfolio with a wide variety of subject matter. I have a BFA from Marywood University.
