About Kyle

My passion for teaching comes from a lifelong desire to help others. I am PA certified teacher with a BS in Elementary Education, and am currently pursuing a MS in Math and Science K-8. I have four years of professional teaching experience in the classroom, three years of experience as a private tutor, and also spent two years as a trainer/auditor for a government agency. Therefore, I have experience working with people of all ages, and will use these acquired skills to help you succeed!

I specialize in grades K-8, but am willing and able to tutor many other subject areas. I use a constructivist teaching philosophy to engage students and ensure that they become an integral part of the learning process. I also use visual, auditory, and kinesthetic lessons and activities to fit any learning style.

I hold myself to a very high standard. For that reason, I often ask for feedback, and will not charge for a lesson if you are not completely satisfied. Furthermore, I will also provide feedback to track progress and ensure success.

I look forward to hearing from you, and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

While completing my minor in Special Education at Slippery Rock University, I completed several lesson plans, unit plans, and did an eight week Action Research project that focused on how to effectively teach students who have ADD/ADHD and dyslexia. In addition to these experiences, I have developed and implemented IEPs as a classroom teacher for students with ADD/ADHD and dyslexia.

Dyslexia

During my time as a classroom teacher and as a private tutor, I worked with students that have dyslexia, and prepared individualized lessons and activities that involve auditory, visual, and kinesthetic elements that allow students with dyslexia to learn effectively. Also, while completing my minor in special education at Slippery Rock University, I completed two classes that focused on teaching students with special needs, including dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a PA certified K-6 teacher with a BS from Slippery Rock University, and am currently pursuing a MS in math and science K-8. I have 4 years of professional teaching experience, and 3 years of private tutoring experience. My method of tutoring subjects K-6 is to use my constructivist teaching methodology paired with auditory, visual, and kinesthetic lessons to ensure every student is successful.

Phonics

While completing my BS in Elementary Education at Slippery Rock University, I completed several lesson plans, unit plans, and did an eight week Action Research project that focused on how using sight words can improve phonemic awareness, and help students begin to read. In addition to these experiences, I have taught many lessons in phonics as classroom teacher.

Praxis

I am qualified to tutor for the Praxis test because I successfully completed the test, and also have helped others prepare. Over the last three years, I have used the official Praxis study guide, along with my own materials to help those taking the test. So far, I have worked with 12 students, and all have passed on the first attempt.

Social Studies

I am qualified to tutor Social Studies because I have 4 years of experience in the classroom, including two years as the school's primary 5th grade Social Studies teacher. I also have 3 years of experience as a private tutor, in which I have developed various lessons and activities to help students that need help with Social Studies.

Special Needs

I am qualified to tutor special needs because I have a BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education from Slippery Rock University. In addition to my education, I have 4 years of experience in an inclusive classroom, and 3 years experience as a private tutor. I helped many students with special needs succeed in their studies.

Study Skills

I am qualified to tutor study skills because of my previous experience as a tutor and classroom teacher. I have three years experience as a private tutor, and have previously helped students of all ages develop good study habits, this includes: memorization drills, word association, flash cards, skimming, picking out key words, and many other strategies. I also gained experience teaching study skills as a classroom teacher by developing study guides and many different games/activities that help students retain information.

Great Tutor!! — My daughter was very frustrated she was struggling with her homework and the concepts she was learning in school. Now my daughter is improving and more confident with her math homework and quizzes. Kyle adapts to my daughters learning style and is able to explain the way my daughter learns best. He always encourages her to be more independent and how to recognize where to apply concepts in context ...
