I am a retired Philadelphia School District ESL and Reading teacher would like to tutor students in reading comprehension and other skills necessary for proficiency in meeting the standards of Common Core. I have extensive experience in all types of standardized testing including the PSSA. Students are trained to be organized, focused and independent learners.
I have over 35 years of ESL and Reading experience with the Philadelphia School District. I realize that not all students learn the same way, and monopolizing on their strengths as well as supporting their weaknesses is essential. Instilling confidence and a love of learning increases motivation and eventually success.
I am looking forward to helping students achieve their maximum potential in reading and writing. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
