My experience as an artist and teacher has taught me that anyone can learn to draw and paint. As in learning any skill one must have the patience in overcoming hurdles, passion for the art and the commitment to practice. I teach in a fun and relaxed atmosphere because I believe this best promotes and motivates learning. I am flexible and upbeat wishing to guide my students forward into the mystery and beauty of seeing the world more deeply.
My goal as a tutor and teacher is to help my student(s) move forward in a direction that excites them. I draw and paint in a realistic way responding to the natural world as I see and feel it. In order to create what one envisions there is much learning, practice and experimenting to get on with. It is this love for the process, which is always more satisfying than the end result because to do art is to be alive in the midst of the moment.
I am currently employed by the Conshohocken Art League as an Art Instructor teaching drawing and painting. I have a private art instruction studio offering classes to children and adults. Also I have taught part-time for 3 years as an art teacher in the Methacton and Perkiomen Valley School districts.

I charge 40.00 an hour whether I teach one or 2 students. Each additional student is $20 per hour.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a certified Art Teacher I have some experience with children and adults with ADHD, however I have learned about this issue mostly from raising a son who has ADHD. He was medically tested at U of PENN and received an IEP in school to help with this "disorder". He has taken medication to help with his difficulty in focusing, but as long as his hands are occupied, or he is moving even slightly his ability to focus is greatly improved. Good health, diet and exercise are invaluable in treating this issue as well.
As an active artist and art teacher I have an ongoing love for art history, philosophy, and culture. Some of my favorite books are The Art Spirit, by Robert Henri; The Artists Way, by Julia Cameron, Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain. As well, I enjoy cartoons and stories in The New Yorker magazine.
No matter how much one reads about art/history, doing art is the most effective way to understand what it's all about.
I have 20 years training as a painter, illustrator and muralist. In addition to a BFA I have spent endless hours learning my craft. The only way to know if I can be of help to you is to ask me questions!
