Hello, my name is Annabel! I have been coaching for 6 years now. I have coached private lessons, club teams, high school teams, and middle school teams. I developed my passion and interest for coaching when I was in college playing volleyball where we held camps and helped out coaching. With such a wide variety of coaches in my developmental stages, I became a mixture of the many different styles and methods of all the coaches that taught me to be the person and athlete that I am today. I owe all my success to them and my passion lies in wanting to share my knowledge and love for my sport to others.

My coaching philosophy :)

I am a coach because of my passion for my work. I strive to create a positive learning environment in good and bad times. I will mold a group of individuals to communicate, to be responsible and to hold themselves accountable. I believe in nurturing their dreams to be the best on and off the court. Simply put, I try to build high self-esteem in each one of my players. I do that by accepting the player for who she is. From there, we build on the strength of their personality and work on the areas that are not as strong. I believe a person will seldom outperform her self-image. So the question is how do you accept a person for just who she is? It is my belief, if you get a team with all the players performing up to their positive confident self-image you will have a winning team.

I believe in the understanding of each individual athlete because not every athlete responds to the same method—some like repetition, some get bored, some like coaching sessions, group workouts, some like tough love, others need nurturing, etc. My goal is to learn what motivates the athlete (daily communications, weekly recap, email, phone, texting) what the athlete struggles with the most, what is going on in the rest of their lives. I work hard to create an extensive evaluation for the athlete and then we meet up face to face, and their parents and I meet face to face and we set up a plan that is realistic—we set attainable goals; long tern and short term to keep the athlete engaged. With a clear understanding from both athlete and coach, as well as parents, constant feedback, monitoring, and regular communication there are no surprises or obstacles that cannot be overcome because we have practiced it all and have prepared emotionally for all that is possible.

I aim to coach athletes the basics and then create more awareness on how to apply it in competitive situations. In a game, a coach cannot stop the scrimmage or drill to explain what they would like to see more of or move the player or take a hands on approach towards correction. The luxury is not present and the coach only has a limited influence on the athlete and on the game from the sidelines. Therefore, it is important that athletes can assess, evaluate, and correct themselves in competitive situations to produce the best possible performance which is why dictating the goals that have been set for each individual athlete is so important.

Most importantly, my goal is to teach my athletes sportsmanship, how to have fun and to constantly reinvent their love for the game.

I have been playing volleyball and lacrosse for 13 years. I have played at all levels from middle school, high school varsity, internationally, collegiate division one, recreationally, and on all platforms such as indoor, doubles grass, and doubles beach.I am a lefty which has provided many benefits as a volleyball and lacrosse player. I have played center, attack wing, d-wing, and even goalie in lacrosse. In volleyball, I have played OH, RS, S, and L which sheds some light on my knowledge of vertical training since I am only 5'2". I was a dual athlete in college and loved every minute of it! Due to injury, my career fell short which is why I preach injury prevention and studied athletic training, and physical therapy to benefit all my athletes that I have coached.

I love volleyball and lacrosse. I would not be who I am or where I am without them. All my best experiences in life are thanks to my sports which is why I have a deep passion to share my knowledge and experiences to those with the same love. If you want to learn more, feel free to contact me! I would love to get started and teach you everything I know.
