No one has more experience. No one has more expertise. Over the last 15 years I've worked for several different test-prep companies. All were pretty good, but my instruction incorporates the best techniques from each place. There are a lot of SAT coaches who CLAIM to be experts. I PROVE my expertise by showing you my perfect 800 score on the SAT Subject Test, mathematics level 2. I'm not too shabby at reading and writing, either.
Unlike the one-size-fits-all test-prep courses, and the overly-structured national tutoring companies, I always customize my methods and presentation for the student at hand. There is a big difference between a student striving for 700s on the SAT and one hoping to reach the 500s. Likewise, a student struggling with Algebra I is a far cry from one going for an A in honors pre-calculus. I am comfortable and experienced with all levels of students.
Because many of my students have achieved dramatic increases in their scores, some people get the impression that I am mainly an SAT coach. Such is NOT the case. I have tutored hundreds of students in subjects ranging from pre-algebra to graduate-level statistics. I am a state-certified math teacher, grades 7-12, with seven years of classroom teaching experience.
I am a graduate of the College of William Mary (BA - Mathematics) and the NJ Institute of Technology (MS - Applied Science). But, my greatest qualifications come from years of experience in the real world.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your educational goals. No one has more experience. No one has more expertise. Ron has been an amazing tutor. Our son was undecided between the SAT and the ACT. Ron was able to tutor him in both at the level he needed with extra attention to the areas our son needed. Our son's scores on the SAT went up almost 400 points after a summer of twice weekly, one hour sessions. I recommend Ron highly. With our first 2 sons, we used the Princeton review and Stanley Kaplan small group tutoring respectfully. The experience with Ron has far exceeded either of those programs.
Ron was able to prep our son for an Algebra 2 test on short notice. We will continue to use him regularly. Highly recommend.
Ron was friendly, knowledgeable, flexible, and encouraging. He was able to tailor the lesson to my daughter's needs. He reviewed the work she had done on her own and offered suggestions for next steps.
Excellent tutor - professional, courteous, timely & knowledgeable. With Ron's help, our daughter scored a 31 on the ACT. This score, along with her GPA, made her eligible for the Provost Scholarship! My daughter had great results with her SATs as well. Ron provided work materials & practice tests, he instilled confidence, and he was an excellent tutor overall.
Ron is an excellent tutor. He really knows math material well and presents the concepts very clearly. He works very well with my teenager and has been extremely helpful with geometry.
Ron was very helpful for raising my daughter's math SAT score in only two sessions. He immediately focused on her weakness of rushing through the easy problems, and making simple calculation errors. As a result, he raised her confidence level, and she scored above 700 in math.
Thank you Ron for helping my daughter get through her SAT and ACT tests. With your help, she became more confident and knowledgeable in math. Her score on the SAT improved dramatically.
Ron is a great tutor and worked well with both of my children. I am sure they will do well on the SAT tests! I would recommend Ron highly!
Ron is very reliable. Ron lets us know after each lesson of our sons progress and what he needs to work on for the next session. He expresses his opinion in a professional manner on whether our son has worked enough over the previous week on his SAT subject studies.
Ron has tutored my daughter over the past year in pre-calculus and SAT math. He is capable of discussing the concepts in a relatable manner which enables the student to work through and solve the problems independently. In addition to having a thorough knowledge of the subject matter, Ron is extremely patient, kind and encouraging.
Ron has tutored both my sons. He helped my 8th grader raise his math grade by 10 points in 2 months. He also helped my 11th grader raise his math SAT score by 100 points after just 3 sessions.
Ron worked with my son who was failing math and lacked motivation to learn what he needed. Ron was able to engage my son in the learning process and hone in on what he needed to learn for the class. My son actually discovered he had an aptitude for the subject after all. With that he buckled down and was able to actively participate in the tutoring sessions which resulted in him passing the final and the class! I will certainly ask for Ron if my we ever need math help in the future. Thanks Ron.
Ron was very knowledgeable, patient and thorough with my son as they prepared for the Math SAT. He was also very encouraging about his abilities especially in the session before the exam. My son's score increased by 130 points and we are thrilled! I highly recommend Ron as an SAT tutor!
Ron was a great tutor. My son was working with a very tight time frame. He tutored with Ron to hopefully improve his SAT score. The sessions were very productive and I am confident his score will improve significantly. Ron was patient, focused, very well prepared. He helped my son with all topics adjusting to his needs every session. I am extremely pleased with my experience and I would definitely use him again. I truly wished I had used him last year before my son took the SAT initially. Ron make my son feel like he could actually do better and that the test isn't as hard as it seems. His confidence has improved. Thank you so much Ron!
Update! My son's SAT scores increased by 110 points. He scored above what he needed and was awarded a substantial scholarship offer from his college. I owe it all to Ron! Thank you again.
Ron is very easy to communicate with and responds quickly. My daughter was tutored by Ron for Precalulus. She thought he was very good. We will use Ron again in the future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ACT has made huge gains in popularity over the last couple of years. Many students believe they can score higher on the ACT than on the SAT.
The ACT math questions are more straight-forward than those on the SAT, and the ACT reading passages are at a slightly lower level, but many students struggle with the ACT's science section. Also, the ACT covers trig and elements of pre-calculus while the SAT goes only through Algebra 2.
It is such a shame that English is not rigorously taught at most schools today. I can remember strict teachers drilling proper English usage into my head: diagramming sentences, looking up words in the dictionary, re-writing papers that my teachers knew I didn't put much effort into.
My credentials are in math, but my English skills aren't far behind.
Most people think of geometry as a math course, which, of course, it is. However, it is also a reasoning course and a language course. The reasoning and language parts present the major stumbling blocks for students. I believe that geometry is among the hardest subjects to teach and to tutor. But... I love it!
Math education has improved in recent decades while grammar education has suffered. I had tough, old-school English teachers and professors, which is why my grammar skills surpass those of many English teachers I have known.
I am a certified math teacher (NJ grades 7-12) with 7 years of full-time classroom teaching experience, including the supervision of student teachers. I have worked as a tutor since 1998, helping students mainly in math and SAT/ACT prep, but also in many other subjects, including PRAXIS levels 1 and 2. My formal education was attained at first-rate schools and I have always scored very high on standardized tests.
This is the math course that drives high school students crazy, even more so than calculus. It is also my favorite subject to tutor. My qualifications for tutoring precalculus are based on long experience and a perfect 800 score on the SAT subject test, level 2, without a graphing calculator.
Probability is perhaps the most fascinating topic in all of mathematics.
As a young graduate student, I had a probability professor who was a professional gambler and a world-class backgammon player. I have been fascinated with the subject ever since.
Unlike most coaches, who specialize in only one section of the SAT, I have long experience and expertise in all three parts of the test.
The reading section of the SAT, like the math section, is much more challenging than it used to be. Understanding many of the passages requires college level reading ability. Although my degrees and certifications are in mathematics, I am highly literate and have helped many students make dramatic gains in their reading scores. I prep students for all three parts of the SAT, including the essay.
Writing skills and grammar are not taught as rigorously as they used to be. Chances are, even if you've attended good schools and gotten good grades, your skills are not adequate to achieve a good score on the SAT writing section.
I studied reading and writing under strict, old-school English teachers and professors, which is one reason why my verbal skills exceed those of many English teachers.
I have been helping students raise their scores on all three SAT sections for many years. I can do the same for you.
