"Extremely Dedicated!"

Michael came in knowing exactly what my daughter's goals were and was ready to get started as soon as he walked in to our home for the first time! He was always prepared with materials and always gave extra tips along with guided practice. He also wouldn't mind going overtime just so that he could finish the lesson thoroughly, which I greatly appreciated. He always sent emails between lessons with extra practice materials and did a lot of preparation before each lesson. I believe his efforts had a huge impact not only on my daughter's progress, but also on her confidence and general knowledge. Michael was an amazing tutor, and I would recommend him to anyone!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have been tutoring the ACT English and Reading s for almost a decade. I deliver excellent results for students at all levels. Most recently (October 2016), I helped a student increase his reading score from a 30 to a 35 (near perfect). I helped that same student improve from a 25 to a 31 in writing. I attribute my success in SAT Writing to a carefully planned syllabus that allows students to increase their knowledge, immediately apply that knowledge, and build confidence after every lesson -- until they attain complete mastery. I love tutoring the ACT; I'm very good at it; and thoroughly enjoy working with my students.

ACT Reading

I have been tutoring the ACT Reading and English sections for almost a decade. I deliver excellent results for students at all levels. Most recently (October 2016), I helped a student increase his reading score from a 30 to a 35 (near perfect). I helped that same student improve from a 25 to a 31 in writing. I attribute my success in SAT Reading to my ability to communicate an insight that few books and teachers seem to recognize: the reading section (both in the ACT and SAT) is based on understanding the relationship of ideas. The most important words in the passages -- no matter what the subject -- are words like "and, but, now, then, on the other hand," etc.

English

I have been teaching and tutoring reading, writing, and grammar for for several decades, during which time I have also been a professional writer and tutor for the English sections of most standardized tests -- including the SAT, ACT, PSSA, SAT I, and COOP/HST. I have a Master's Degree in English from Columbia University.

Grammar

I love teaching, and I have excellent results with students from third grade through college. The key to my success is tailoring my teaching to the needs of each student. I listen carefully; I put students at ease and make learning enjoyable; and I always show patience and respect.

Literature

I have spent my career as a professional writer, during which time I have taught literature at the college level and on a one-to-one basis privately.

My love of literature did not end when I received my Master's Degree in English from Columbia University. The key to my success as a teacher of literature is my never-ending passion to read and study. I have helped struggling grade school, middle school, and high school students; honors and AP English students; and college freshmen and sophomores. Not only are the books and poems my students read familiar to me; frequently, they are also ones that I'm currently re-reading and studying for my own pleasure.

SAT Reading

I have tutored SAT Reading and Writing for the past eight years. I deliver excellent results for students at all levels. For the past year, in addition to working with private students, I have been an instructor at an SAT academy, where I have taught classes of seventeen students for four hours a day, three days a week. I have increased scores in both reading and writing by as much as 150 points. My greatest success to date is taking one student from a 640 to a 780 -- a near perfect score (the October 1, 2016 test). I attribute my success to an insight that few books and tutors seem to recognize: the key to SAT reading lies in understanding the relationship of ideas.

I love tutoring for the SAT; I'm very good at it; and I absolutely love working with my students.

Lucky to have found Michael — A few months ago we began looking for an English tutor that could put together a course to help our teenage son improve his reading comprehension and writing process. This may sound like a basic enough request but in no way is it basic at all. Michael was able to quickly assess our son's individual needs and develop a plan to improve his skills. By the last session we were already able to see i ...
