McKendree University (Elementary Education)
My love for sharing in the joys of learning began in grade school. I had incredible teachers, from a really cool special substitute teacher, to the day in day out teachers whose gifts I still treasure today. My passion has always been reading and the decoding of words. Age 7 is the earliest anyone should begin and you are never too old to learn.
I have a degree in Elementary Education from McKendree University, and I would love to share reading tips, many learned from Jim Trelease. These special skills allowed me to receive the Sallie Mae First Year Teaching Award. I challenge my students but allowing for time to complete assignments. I enjoy getting to know my students and tailoring the lessons around their interests. I feel that it helps the learning process when it is tied to passions. I enjoy learning from my students and know the learning process is enhanced when the knowledge and strengths are shared. In addition, to my time tutoring, I am able to share my passion of literacy with multiple age levels among the in-home daycares in the Lancaster Library area. Reading enhances every area of learning and I am willing to help.
I look forward to scheduling a first time meeting. This will be a chance to learn about you, the learner. I do not assign homework during the first session but prepare to be driven in the pursuit of excellence. This is aided in the one on one experience of tutoring, allowing for the flow of learning.
Instilled in me from a young age has been a love of literature. And literature is more than a "classic" it is a well-told tale that is true. There is a saying that "story is truth and truth is story". From a preschooler's picture book, to a just for fun grown-up novel this is what one will find in a book. In order to proofread, edit and assist a student with their own writing, this needs to become a part of the tutor's DNA. This growth is all a part of the joy in the journey of being a life-long learner.
If this meets your needs, I am the tutor for you. The time getting acquainted is never wasted since the first session is free. I am sure you will find if it's a match, the fair price of 30 will be fine. However, if this is a hardship, I would be happy to make other arrangements, paying it forward always brings a greater return. My love for sharing in the joys of learning began in grade school. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
