Millersville University (Elementary Education)
Hi, my name is Jamie and I am a certified Elementary K-2 teacher who enjoys helping students achieve their goals and become successful in all they do. I graduated from Millersville University in 2010. I started working with children of all ages when I was 12 years old through babysitting. I then worked at a daycare with infants up to pre-k. I taught them the early developmental foundations of learning and helped prepare them for Kindergarten. I have been a certified teacher for a little more than 4 years. I started out day to day subbing and then took a long term position, teaching 5th grade for the entire year. I also taught 2nd grade for a few months. I taught first grade in Harrisburg City as well. I am currently day to day subbing again until a teaching contract position opens up. Therefore, I'd like to continue educating students one on one with tutoring.
I am an energetic, enthusiastic, loving, and outgoing person. I love to have fun and spend time with my family. I just recently became an aunt and enjoy spending time with my nephew! I also have two dachshunds, named Julie and Andy. They keep me pretty busy. I enjoy skiing/snowboarding, swimming, hiking, golfing, scrap booking, and working out. Most of all I love educating young ones and watching them grow! It is the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher because I know that I have impacted their lives in so many ways. I am planning on going back to school for my Masters degree either in psychology, or Social Work so I can continue my ultimate goal in educating and impacting the lives of not only children but families as well! If your looking for a tutor for your children to remediate or enrich them academically, I am the one to contact! I look forward to working with you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have earned my teaching certificate in Elementary Education teaching k-6. I have been teaching students in various grade levels for over 4 years now. I gained this experience through day to day subbing, long term positions within a district, and a contracted position teaching 1st grade. I have worked with inclusionary classroom settings and assisted in the planning, assessing, and instructing students with diverse backgrounds.
I have had the opportunity to teach children the foundations of writing. Through Project Read I have gained experience because they have a spelling/writing program that teaches how to write. I have experience with teaching students one on one how to write their letters as well as in a whole class setting.
I have had the opportunity to be trained in Project Read. I have taught Project Read to first graders while teaching in Harrisburg School District. I found this program to be very successful and it even taught me new things. Such as; vcv, vccv, and vcccv cutting patterns. It also brings meaning to the foundations of how we build words by following certain rules, cutting patterns, and sounds.
