Hello. My name is Jill. Teaching has been a passion of mine for over 30 years. I have been a secondary school teacher, a business instructor, and am currently tutoring for the Literacy Council in Lancaster, PA. I also taught English as a Second Language in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Tutoring gives me an opportunity to help students set and reach goals in the Language Arts. I specialize in reading, writing and grammar in school and on the SAT and ACT exams. Together we discuss the skills to be learned and develop a plan of action. I prepare in advance thorough lesson plans, and I assign homework after each session. Each session begins with a review of skills learned at prior sessions, and a review of questions the student had while completing the homework. Progress reports are provided periodically as well as requests for lesson feedback so I can provide the optimum learning experience. I also believe that learning is a creative process, so I can guarantee that we will have fun as well as learn together.
I am also one of those rare individuals who love public speaking. I have a long history with Toastmasters and over 20 years of public speaking experience. I love helping people learn to feel more at ease speaking in front of groups of people.
I also bring years of business and corporate experience into my tutoring - meaning, as we learn together, I can demonstrate to students how they can use their skills practically in their daily lives and in their future professions.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you and getting started in helping you achieve success in your studies. Hello. My name is Jill. Teaching has been a passion of mine for over 30 years. Jill helped my daughter feel at ease and I could see she was excited about future sessions. This will help my daughter throughout high school and college.
Dear Traci. Emma's a terrific young woman. I'm really looking forward to working with her. Thank you for the feedback. See you both next week.
Jill has helped my child take her writing from C and D's to A and B's! She is finishing her senior strong in her honors English class! Thanks Jill! I'm sure she will be calling you from college!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
