In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a BS-Ed in art education which required 48 credits in art history and took 36 hours of graduate level art history courses to full fill my permanent teaching certification in the state of PA. As a professional artist I try to continually sharpen knowledge and stay abreast of current exhibits and their historical relevance. What fascinates me is the overlapping influences of art throughout various cultures and ages. It is truly a life's journey to explore it all, so I have come to let my artistic needs and influences guide my thirst for further knowledge. I would be happy and excited to explore and help navigate your own needs for historical art discoveries.
As a professional art educator for 30 years and a professional artist, drawing skills play an essential key role in producing quality two dimensional art. I am proficient in teaching and creating perspective drawings, foreshortening, tonal/value sketches, figure drawing and in using all drawing materials from pencil, charcoal, pen and ink and gesture drawing with a brush. The sensitivity of line and creating an understanding of form using drawing media are skills I enjoy teaching and practicing.
