I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker, and I earned my Bachelor's degree in English in 1984 from Beijing Normal University, the number one ranking institution for preparing teaching professionals in China. In 1986 I came to the United States, and three years later I got my Master's degree in English from Marquette University, Wisconsin. Since then I have taught English in college, and later on worked as an IT professional for many years, but my love for humanities such as language, literature, history, and social affairs has never diminished. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
