Thank you for your interest in pursuing tutoring. I believe the key to knowledge is the very basic understanding of any area of study. I am a certified teacher (Elem. Ed. K-8th grade and Ed. of the blind and visually impaired, birth through 21). I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA., and began my career teaching in the public school setting. I changed gears and began a career as Executive Assistant to the CEO and CFO of a sizable corporation, which holds many diverse enterprises on the east coast. Most of my responsibilities involved administration of the two charitable foundations, which were created in the 1950s by earlier generations of this family owned organization. I enjoyed this position for 13 years and was very fortunate to be a part of such vital philanthropic work in the community.
During this time I volunteered for the Lancaster Literary Council, tutoring in English as a second language. Through this experience, I learned that working one-to-one with students is very rewarding. I am a very patient person with a strong commitment to helping students meet their academic goals.
I am an avid reader, which I believe is one of the best ways to maintain current vocabulary and use of correct grammar. After many years of experience writing summaries of grant applications to present to the foundations' boards of trustees, I feel very confident in my ability to help students in all of the language arts areas, as well as all general subjects.
I look forward to working with you to conquer the academic challenges you are experiencing. I will not overwhelm you, and will work at a pace that makes you feel comfortable and successful. I am willing to tutor you in person, or virtually over the internet. I charge $30 to $40 per hour depending on any additional expenses I may incur, e.g. travel costs. Thank you for your consideration. Hello,
Thank you for your interest in pursuing tutoring. I believe the key to knowledge is the very basic understanding of any area of study. I am a certified teacher (Elem. Ed. K-8th grade and Ed. of the blind and visually impaired, birth through 21). I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA., and began my career
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My training and subsequent teaching experiences with young elementary age children, make me very familiar with the Common Core skills necessary to help children successfully advance through their education. I am prepared to tutor in the following Common Core areas but are not limited to: reading, writing, basic mathematics, history and social studies.
I am a certified teacher in Elementary Education and education of the blind and visually impaired. I have taught 2nd grade in the traditional classroom and am familiar with elementary curriculum and associated teaching methods.
I also have experience tutoring blind/visually impaired students in general studies through the use of braille. These students were part of a traditional classroom and I worked itinerantly to provide services at different districts in Lancaster County.
Additionally, I tutored adult students in English as a second language.
As a public school teacher in 2nd grade, a large part of my curriculum was tied to teaching handwriting. I worked with students to stress the importance of handwriting that is very legible. When I taught, cursive was still being taught (and it sounds like it is coming back), so I was responsible to teach children in two different disciplines of handwriting. I take into account each student's physical use of a writing tool, and have helped to provide alternatives that help them work around the traditional ways of holding a writing tool to improve the quality of their writing.
As an elementary grade school teacher, I understand the importance of phonics in learning both speech and reading. Phonics help children make the connections between what they "hear" (phonemes) and the corresponding spelling of those sounds.
I believe my training and experiences in teaching early grade school students, as well as tutoring adults who are learning English as their second language, will allow me to help your children. A thorough knowledge of phonics will most definitely lead to strong reading and writing skills.
Not only was I a teacher, but as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board, President/CEO and Executive Vice President/CFO of Steinman Enterprises, I was tasked with preparing all of their professional communication with other leaders in the community, investors and board members. Needless to say, this required a high level of professionalism and accuracy. This is such a crucial part of your career aspirations, and a very small hurdle to achieve. I hope I can help.
I have never tutored from home, but as having been a teacher, I have experience in helping students learn effective practices in studying. Practices that will hopefully sustain them and assure their success as they matriculate from grade -to grade. I also have worked one-one with students in the public school system who had learning difficulties. I am naturally an organizer, and often times just mastering and I understand that maintaining an organized life will improve study skills.
