I'm an avid consumer of literary fiction, poetry, magazines and newspapers and I love to write and edit the work of others.
I work at a newspaper as a copy editor and page designer. I've never taught formally, but my supervisors selected me to train new hires in our department because I am very good at explaining things and love to help people. I took many writing and literature classes in college, and I always thought I'd like to teach those subjects in an individualized or small-group setting. I am kind and patient, and I hope to help you succeed academically and/or professionally.
I am a professional copy editor. I have an excellent understanding of grammar and syntax, and I know how to improve a piece of writing not only by rewriting sentences but by re-imagining the writer's approach to the subject matter. I am extremely well-read and have a talent for explaining how things work. At my job, I was asked to write parts of a training guide for new hires.

My daughter spoke very highly of Julia and I was also impressed by her dedication .Also the day that she came for her lesson ,it was snowing and she still made every effort to come and she did make it in and I was very impressed by her sincerity.
I have a B.A. in Art from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. In school, I focused mainly on drawing and painting--specifically the mediums of graphite, ink and watercolor. In high school, I participated in an after-school program for elementary-school students in which I taught drawing and crafts. I would like to teach students how to draw what they see, follow their intuition and develop their own style.
Because reading is my main pastime, I am extremely well-read, so I have a thorough and nuanced understanding of the English language. I want to help students improve their reading, writing and speaking skills by giving them instruction in the structure of the language and showing them what makes a good sentence work and why bad sentences don't work.
In my lessons, I will emphasize clarity because I feel that is the main characteristic of good writing.
I took many literature classes in college and thoroughly enjoy talking about the subject with friends and family. I want to share my appreciation and understanding of literature with students by discussing works of literature with them and helping them to apply literary theory. I will help students understand why works of literature are successful, what they tell us about society, and what they tell us about ourselves.
I'm qualified to help students expand their vocabularies because I have been reading voraciously all my life and have a large vocabulary myself. I'm very good at explaining what words mean and helping students discover for themselves what words mean on the fly, through context and by knowing the roots of words and parts of words.
As a journalist, I am required to be precise and accurate in my writing, so word choice is very important. I am constantly thinking about better ways to communicate ideas.
In college, I minored in Writing Studies and have taken a diverse array of liberal arts classes in subjects such as sociology, anthropology and art history in addition to general education classes, so I have a wide knowledge of terminology in various fields.
