I'm an Artist and I love to teach art to anyone from age 11 and up, including adults. My style of working is professional yet relaxed. The goal is to bring joy and authenticity into the creative experience while teaching techniques that establish a strong foundation for future works.
I could rattle on about myself. But let's see if there is a more interesting way to share a bit about myself. If I were a food I'd be a ... Carnival Funnel Cake! Like the dough, I'm capable of going in a variety of directions while remaining focused because I'm versatile and a creative thinker. Like the powdered sugar, I'm as sweet as can be. And like the carnival, I have just enough edge to keep things interesting and you better scoop me up while you can because it's not every day that funnel cake comes to town.
My experience includes a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in Illustration and Painting. I've been a professional Artist for 10+ years with gallery representation and works hanging in the collections of several notable individuals and institutions. I'm an Artist Representative with Gamblin Oil Colors. In this role I travel as a guest lecturer to Universities throughout the East Coast. I have lectured at schools including Pratt, Parsons, GCA, Tyler, PCAD, MICA, VCU, MICA, SCAD and RISD, among others. My lectures are 90 minute presentations on advanced color theory, oil painting, painting mediums, studio safety practices and archival integrity in oil painting.
I'm highly skilled at portfolio preparation for college candidates. In my own portfolio prep for college many years ago, I put together a body of work that not only got me accepted to my school of choice, but also granted me scholarships. I can provide a breadth of insight when combining my technical skills with my experience in presentations, gallery communications, and my own dedicated portfolio prep. For bonus points, my husband and many of my friends are professors at Philadelphia area art schools, giving me the inside scoop on what colleges are looking for in candidates.
For those wanting to learn technique, I am an expert in drawing, composition, design, painting, color, canvas stretching and visual communication. My skills also branch into concept, psychology and artistic process. If desired, we can dig deeper into art theory where we can explore more expansive elements of why we create.
Fun Fact! The Strathmore Sketch Pad cover features one of my drawings. See if you can find me next time you're in an art supply store!
I choose to Tutor because I want to contribute to the development of our future artists. I'm interested in working with artists who WANT to learn and grow to their greatest potential, whether it's for fun or goal oriented. I love talking shop with artists. It's my goal to help them to find the skills and materials to support their unique voice and vision.
The best way to find out if we're a good match is to have a phone conversation or meet. Shoot me a message and let's begin! I'm an Artist and I love to teach art to anyone from age 11 and up, including adults. My style of working is professional yet relaxed. The goal is to bring joy and authenticity into the creative experience while teaching techniques that establish a strong foundation for future works.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
