I am versatile, internationally experienced teacher, with expertise in ESL, History, Philosophy, Politics, Writing//Editing, and Speech. I have other areas of knowledge such as Ryukyu martial arts, music, Japanese language and culture that I can help give beneficial introductions. I have three years of ESL teaching experience in Japan, and am currently on the market for a full time History or ESL teaching position in the United States. I have an extensive education in the humanities I wish to utilize and I believe tutoring people and having them learn at a comfortable pace. As for ESL tutoring, after my three years of experience in teaching English in Japan, I am a tutor anyone would want to improve their English speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
Teaching for me is something that come naturally. Having the space to teach what I want and people who want to learn is valuable to me. Making sure people are not only understanding what I am teaching, but enjoying what I am teaching them is crucial in my teaching philosophy. Having a safe, fun space to freely ask questions, slow down or speed up where we are in a lesson is important. Goal setting is vital to learning anything from learning English, to the rise and fall of Napoleon, to improving your writing voice.
Proofreading is something I started in college, and have had to do the last three years as an English teacher in Japan. From simple grammar mistakes, awkward phrasing, to reworking paragraphs to make an idea flow better, to pulling the key concept of what you really want to speak to in the second draft of an article, I have worked with students and adults alike to help improve their writing.
One of my major areas of research in graduate school was political schools of thought and how they have affected history. This has led me to keep on the pulse of current global politics, their histories, their functions, their failures, and their futures. I can be useful in getting an introduction into how governments got started, what makes them tick, and current issues with them.
Please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone so I can help you achieve your goals. Hi!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
