I have been a substitute teacher, classroom teacher, tutor, homeschool Mom, and homeschool evaluator. But my favorite thing to do is tutoring! I love to work one-on-one with students and help them to see their potential and consequent success in school and other areas in their life. I have worked with elementary students, middle school students, high school students, college students, and even older adults who have had a passion to learn. No matter what the age, it is exciting to be a part of someone's learning experience and to be able to help them see their own potential and success in life.

I was a substitute teacher for 4 years in Northley and Sun Valley (Penn Delco School District), and the Springton Lake and Penn Crest schools (Rose Tree Media School District). This was a great experience for me, and I enjoyed getting to know the students, even though it could be challenging at times! After having my third child, I began teaching ninth and tenth graders at West Chester Christian School. Although I enjoyed working with the students, I felt restricted in this atmosphere in what I could teach and even how I could teach. I like making lessons fun! This administration and I were not a good "fit," so I began tutoring high schoolers instead. As some students moved on to college, there were several who I continued to tutor and help in their college English courses.

Once my own children were old enough, I desired to homeschool them, and we had a great time together. After my husband's passing, I could no longer give my children the needed attention and quickly lost focus, so I enrolled our six children in a cyber school (so that I could still enjoy them being at home and working with them). As now four of my children have graduated from high school, I still want to be more involved in teaching, so I am working as a homeschool evaluator. This way I am able to work with families and students, which also provides me opportunities to help students better their writing and grammar skills. I love writing and editing, and I enjoy seeing talented young people increase their own skills as well! Please let me know if I can help in putting some fun into the writing process and help you to produce quality work!

I attended a Christian High School and then went to Baptist Bible College for two years. Originally I thought I wanted to teach elementary classes, but after those two years at college, I realized I would rather work with teenagers in a high school setting. That's when I transferred to West Chester University and graduated with a teaching degree in English. I began by substitute teaching, and I really enjoyed that. Then I was thrilled to get my own classroom! However, that did not quite reach my expectations, so that's when I began tutoring high school students. I helped them mostly with their writing skills, but I also tutored many in grammar and reading as well. During this time I was also privileged to direct a play (Arsenic and Old Lace), which was very successful, with 3 consecutive sold-out nights! As our family began to grow, however, I had less time to tutor and found myself being a full-time "tutor" to my own children. After trying kindergarten, my husband and I decided we would like to try homeschooling. We continued homeschooling all of our children until the oldest was in 11th grade (2005), when my husband unexpectedly died. This turned our world upside-down, and that's when I enrolled them in a cyber school. Several years later, my daughter had back surgery and was unable to attend school (even from home) for 2 months. It was then I wanted to be a homebound teacher, but I found my teaching certificate needed to be updated. And that's when I returned to school. I attended Northcentral University and received my Masters in Education in 2014.

More recently, I received training in ACT English at Brandywine Learning Center. I am anxious to share the things I have learned about the test, some great testing techniques, and other information I gained with students who are planning on taking the test. I especially enjoy editing and helping students to see how to make their writing better. Research papers are not as difficult as you may perceive! Let me show you how to create an excellent paper that you will actually enjoy researching and writing! Grammar can be complicated; however, there are easy techniques that will help you remember to keep everything clear. Let me help!

I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you to realize your strengths in English writing, grammar, and reading! Please contact me today to schedule lessons soon!
