Where I went to school in the US and in Europe, we made a contract to study and work and communicate solely in the languages we were focused on: French, Italian, Spanish, etc. Now, I employ this immersion process while I teach. It works. While I was in southern California, I pursued performance on stage and in film and I learned from great teachers some very effective methods of learning and expressing yourself. I use these techniques to make my students feel really good about learning and confident about expressing themselves. Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

In the entertainment industry, most production personnel use macs. I have worked as a location manager on several television shows such as The Chocolate News and The People's Champions for which I used a mac as part of my "kit" for the project.
I'm very well read in many areas of literature--fiction and non-fiction, young reading, modern and classics. I have a great deal of experience working with film and theater scripts. I know how to identify character traits and break down a script scene by scene to discover the underlying information held within each passage. For example, what is the context? What are the relationships? How can we describe the overall mood? What information is withheld?
I enjoy working the SAT passages because we get to investigate the characters in them and find out what makes them tick. In other words, we will work on discovering each character's point of view, attitude and mood. We will study relationships between characters and passages. Generally, we will become very familiar with the different ways in which the reading section presents passages and questions about them and especially how to best answer those questions.
I'm sure after some study with me, your SAT material will be manageable. I look forward to hearing from you.
I am qualified to tutor speech for the following reasons: 1) I am a professional film and stage actor. 2) I have been classically trained in speech, voice and diction by notable professionals, Odessa F. and Helen B. and 3) I've been tutoring students in language with emphasis on accents and diction since 1999. I have 5 years worth of experience teaching ESL in classrooms in Beverly Hills schools and an equal amount of time tutoring students of all ages including on a corporate level one-on-one.
I am qualified to tutor in the subject area of study skills for several reasons. First, I am a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, the "Harvard of the Midwest". Second, I developed curricula for myself in private one-on-one tutoring in Southern California for corporate clients and for the Mentor Language Institute where I was lead teacher for two years. Third, I am in the entertainment industry as an actor, writer and director for which one must know how to read and interpret written material, most notably, scripts, and thereby break them down into "digestible" chunks to work with and learn from. An actor must have honed study skills to be confident performing his character. Lastly, I have developed my executive skill of organization to make use of the sources and resources I study in order to garner the value I need from them and apply it where and when it is necessary.
I have been studying theater and acting since 1995.
I began with cold reading, moved into dramatic improvisation in a long-term relationship with Donald McKenna, who promoted Strasberg and Stanislovski, and then continued with advanced cold reading with Gene Bua in Burbank, CA via my intensive studies with Mala Powers and Lisa Dalton in the acting class based on Michael Chekhov's book, "On the Technique of Acting".
Finally, I have taught and co-directed and directed both stage and film actors in classes and on stage and in film.
