Susquehanna University (Biology)
I completed my certification in Secondary Education from Susquehanna University’s Teacher Intern Program in May 2013. This program invites holders of baccalaureate degrees to gain teaching certificates by completing professional education courses at Susquehanna University. I have also successfully completed the Praxis II: Biology Content Knowledge and am in the process of completing Mathematic Content Knowledge. Prior to entering the Teacher Intern Program, I graduated in May 2011 from Susquehanna University’s School of Natural Science with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
Following graduation, I obtained a position at SCHOTT North America as a laboratory technician. At SCHOTT, I worked alongside research scientists on a chemical strengthening of pharmaceutical glass project funded by the Department of Defense. I received a great experience from this opportunity. However, I felt as though this was not my intended career path. Before graduating from Susquehanna, I spent the spring semester working with the football team. During this time I was able to work with student athletes, teaching them a game that I called my pastime for sixteen years. I was convinced this was the career that would bring me most joy. I have spent the past two years working as an assistant football coach at Susquehanna and taking classes to complete my certification. During this time I have gained the same passion I brought to the football field to the classroom. It really brings me great joy being able to connect and make a difference to students.
I have spent 10 months working as a long-term substitute in the Lewisburg Area School District. For the first 6 months I worked as a full time 9th grade science teacher. During this time I created various lesson plans incorporating the district’s One-to-One Computer Solution program. The last four months I was working as a part-time long-term substitute teaching one section of 9th grade science and one section of environmental science to upperclassmen.
I firmly believe that every child is entitled to an enriching education, respect, and professionalism. Along with my skills, I will bring a creative, positive energy to the school, accompanied by a desire and willingness to work with others to achieve a common goal. I confidently believe you will not find a person who will work harder than I will. Throughout the past year I have worked three separate part-time positions in order to achieve my goal of becoming a teacher/coach. In these positions, I have demonstrated excellent time management, prioritization, multi-tasking and project coordination skills, which have played a major role in my advancement to this point. With an unmatched combination of enthusiasm, commitment, and drive, I am confident that I will do the best possible job.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

I did one year of research in genetics in order to complete my biology degree. I feel as though this was by far my strongest subject within my major.
