Dear Parents and Students,
I am an Interdisciplinary Artist and Lecturer at Penn State-The Behrend College in Erie, PA. I love teaching art to all ages. The Arts can be an amazing tool for learning, as such I'm open to teaching more than just my primary subject. I graduated from Goddard College with my Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and from Edinboro University with my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Media Arts. I'd like to leave you with a quote the summarizes my teaching philosophy.
“What avail is it to win prescribed amounts of information about geography and history, to win the ability to read and write, if in the process the individual loses his own soul: loses his appreciation of things worthwhile, of the values to which these things are relative; if he loses desire to apply what he has learned and, above all, loses the ability to extract meaning from his future experiences as they occur?” Dewey in Experience and Education, pg. 50.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Lecturer Heather M.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
