My education includes a B.A. in English Literature, and an M.A. in English. I also possess a certificate in the area of Women's Studies. I am licensed to teach grades 7-12 in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida.

I am currently employed as a full-time substitute teacher. I am required to cover all subject areas, and I spend a lot of time working with Special Education and Life Skills students.

As a teacher, one of my goals is to get students excited about learning. Reading aloud is one way that I interest them in subject matter. Many students dislike reading, so I read to them. Dramatic reading enacts and advances plot through sight and sound. Effective dramatic vocalization requires being comfortable with public speaking, showing emotion, and risking the appearance of foolishness. My facial expressions mirror the words of the work, and my voice changes with every character I portray. I employ whispers, shrieks, and changes in tempo and tone to illustrate authors' intentions. I am rewarded when I see interest and comprehension on students' faces.

A student who actively dislikes reading recently said that she liked the way I read to her class. Some children have told me that I am an unusual teacher. Others have remarked that I am hilarious. My philosophy is that I teach the way that I wish I had been taught. I have never heard that I am a boring teacher.
