Indiana University of Pennsylvania (Communications Media)
I am a 1999 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Media/Graphic Design, with a minor in Studio Art. Through my studies, I gained a balanced skill set, which included a diversified curriculum in art, writing, social sciences, graphic design, and communications theory/technologies. My goal is to pass on my knowledge to students in these areas that have always been my particular strengths.
My recent experiences include visual art instruction to all age groups, but my passion for literature, history, social sciences, and the written word are all things I can assist you with as well. I can give you helpful constructive feedback on written projects, assist with English vocabulary and usage, and coach you with homework related to American History, European History, American Government, first year French, and help you get started with the dreaded end-of-semester term paper!
In addition, as a graphic designer and professional artist, I also offer additional instruction in Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Printmaking, and Graphic Design using Adobe Creative Suite, to youth and adults.
My goal as a tutor is to adapt and relate to YOUR needs and learning style in whatever way helps you to reach your goals. Are you a parent that has a child struggling with Reading, Spelling, or English skills? Are you a college-bound student that wants to polish up on writing skills before heading to your first college courses? Either way, know I am available to help! I start out reviewing your current work to assess skill level, and then we go over goals together. The result: to create an experience that fosters maximum growth in your subject area over a realistic and attainable period of time.
I would love the opportunity to assist you in your academic growth! Hello,
I am a 1999 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Media/Graphic Design, with a minor in Studio Art. Through my studies, I gained a balanced skill
Jessica was wonderful. Ended up not only helping me learn to edit in Photoshop but also taught me Adobe Illustrator so I can easily do the things I need to do to help my business grow.
Jessica was extremely patient. She took the time to show me each step herself and then had me do each step myself. The hands on was a great way to learn.
I have not worked in the "business world" computer wise in 18 years. Jessica helped a real "novice" feel confident and know I can work on this program with success.
Looking forward to being tutored again by Jessica in the future.
With Jessica's help, I managed to get an A- in my Arts class. I had a very difficult course instructor whom both Jessica and I thought should not have been teaching the course. However, what impressed me the most was Jessica's determination along with her professional and personal pride in her work. She is truly a gifted artist and I would/will recommend her should the need arises. Thanks Jessica.
My daughter doesn't like anybody. I went through several before I found Jessica. I love her tutoring style. My daughter is learning so quick!! Thank God for her. She is one in a million!!! She got right to tutoring, didn't stall around or waste time... she even gave her homework! My daughter was still smiling when she went to bed.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Using actively for the creation of design projects since 1996.
Been using actively for design projects since 1996.
I have been drawing all my life, and it is the foundation and building block for understanding the visual arts. My first course in drawing was at the age of 9 at the Lancaster County Art Association, and I never stopped taking classes in drawing since then. My interest in drawing led me to obtain a Minor/Certificate in Studio Art at IUP, where I studied Figure Drawing, and further applied my drawing skills to take additional courses in Three Dimensional Design, Graphic Design, and other classes as part of the curriculum. I also am active in the Philadelphia art community, and represented by a regional gallery. The art classes I currently teach are: Subtractive Charcoal Drawing, Still Life in Pencil, and Portraiture.
In addition to courses in Marketing toward my Communications Media degree, I have also had real-world experience in the field. This experience includes managing a team of Field Representatives, Coaching in Marketing Strategy and Theory, and Advertising Sales & Marketing for a newspaper. I have also designed promotional materials with target audience in mind.
