Hello. I have been teaching English composition, technical writing, and literature classes at a local college for ten years, and I have also been a professional author of technical books and manuals on computing subjects for over 20 years. I have a Master's degree in English and American Literature from New York University. One semester, I signed up for a course with a well-known literary scholar who was one of the "stars" of the school. It turned out to be one of the most tedious and unsatisfying courses I have ever taken. He was more concerned with his own work than with the students he was teaching.

I realized that semester that great scholars are not necessarily great teachers, and I have always kept that in mind in my teaching career. Whether in a class or a one-to-one tutoring environment, I use flexible lesson plans that I can adjust to the specific needs of the student. I try to provide students with the skills they need to write well by concentrating on subjects that interest them.

However, there is no magic wand when it comes to improving your writing. Sometimes we have to drill grammar or practice punctuation to address a student's specific issues. This is why individual instruction in writing can be so valuable. Every student has his or her own strengths and weaknesses, and I have a lot of experience in encouraging those strengths and addressing those weaknesses.

My hours are flexible, and I always respond to messages promptly. Please contact me so we can discuss your needs and how I can help you to improve your reading, writing, or literature studies.
