Bloomsburg University (Education)
I have been tutoring since 1986. I worked as a Daycare teacher throughout college. I was a basic skills teacher in 6th, 7th and 8th grade in NJ. I also worked as a Kindergarten teacher in PA. I have three children, a dog and two bearded dragons. My favorite subjects are math and language arts.
I love tutoring because it gives me a chance to work with a student one on one. I get to really know them, what they like to do and what they don't like. This helps me to plan a lesson around what they are having trouble with by using what they do like to help them understand better and stay away from things they don't like so it won't be more confusing. I plan fun activities and use rewards to encourage students to pay attention and perform to the best of their abilities!
I have received an award in language arts and believe good grammar skills are directly linked with better communication skills which aid in overall success!
I believe a strong foundation is paramount. If you have a strong common core, you can build upon it with more advanced subject matter.
A child's first teacher is their parents or guardians. I provide a nurturing and safe environment for children to learn and express themselves. When their basic needs are met, a child is open to the learning process. I believe children learn by doing, by experience. Learning is not just pencils, papers and books. I provide a wide variety of real world examples in my teaching style. It helps it stay fresh and exciting! I promote children staying children as they learn, not to be bogged down with grades and end results.
I would love to meet you and start to help you do better! Tutoring will be fun and beneficial for you. I use rewards systems and I won't give up until we figure out what works for you! Everyone learns their own way at their own pace and I will do my best to help you get to where you need to be and make it as fun as I can along the way! I hope to hear from you soon!!! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have tutored children in all grade levels, bringing them up as much as three grade levels. I was granted a Teaching Award from Yellin Elementary School for my efforts and commitment both inside and outside of the classroom.
