I look forward to meeting you. If you need to improve your reading or writing, or you would like to learn French, or improve it, I can definitely help you. I have a B.A. in English and French literature from Hood College, and have been a writer, editor and French translator for 30 years. I lived in France and Belgium for 12 years, where I learned a great deal more about the French and their language. I'm a published article writer, and an ex-newspaper reporter. Learning to read and write better should not be boring! When I tutor you, I will start with the areas that are causing you the most difficulty. Our primary goal is to help you improve your grades in school, or perform better in business, as you overcome any language hurdles you may have encountered. I don't teach tedious theory or impose a learning system: I try to work with you "freestyle," and help you progress as easily as possible. I look forward to meeting you. The hourly rate of $45 for tutoring applies only to one student at a time. If two or more persons need group tutoring, my rate would be $60 per hour.
My son enjoyed working with Carol. She had a good rapport with him and worked according to the strengths and weaknesses presented in his SAT results data. She provided up-to-date resources to be used in the sessions. He was expected to be prepared for each session, but was not overly burdened with too much work, since he still had regular school obligations. She worked on reading as well as writing skills. In writing, she used his own writing samples to improve his skills. He showed improvement on the SAT he took after working with her. I have recommended Carol to others who needed her services. Great experience!
Carol had been tutoring my son for English writing skills for a few months now and I am very glad to have discovered a great teacher for my son. My highest recommendation to Carol for any one interested in improving their language skills.
Mrs. Carol is an amazing tutor. She knows and does her job perfectly. Looking forward to work with her again.
I have had Carol M. for two lessons already. She is very personable, and definitely qualified to teach me good grammar, along with how to really write. I'm going into my junior year in high school, and feel well prepared for this upcoming school year. She's a great resource, was an editor before she tutored, and I easily suggest her to anyone looking for help in English studies.
Meghan, Thank you so much for your kind recommendation on WyzAnt. I can only hope to sustain your opinion of me!
Carol is reinforcing a solid base of fundamentals, along with tenses, pronunciation, using relevant periodicals in French. She is establishing a new relationship at this point.
Carol M. was attentive to detail and strove to gain perspective on how to help my daughter in vocabulary, writing for the interest of the audience, and use of correct grammar. She provided many materials to help not only with the tutoring sessions, but also for her school work in the future. She also encouraged my daughter by including material two grades above her current level to see how my daughter would fare in comparison to eighth grade work.
Overall it was a great experience and valuable to us as we move forward. I hold Carol in the highest regard.
Carol has provided my daughter with wonderful tools to improve her French. She is patient and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the language and culture.
Carol has been an excellent French tutor! She is very patient and thorough. She is always bringing new materials and information to keep learning interesting. The books and CDs she supplied have been very helpful. She is very knowledgeable, and does a great job of covering reading, writing, and pronunciation with each lesson. I would highly recommend her!
I've learned so much form Carol in a short period of time. She was very accommodating and gave me workbooks to study from. This was awesome!! She is very knowledgeable and keeps current with today's spoken French. She is able to explain why certain terms are/aren't used any more and various grammatical rules. I will recommend her to anyone. Carol is a fun, patient and extremely knowledgeable tutor!!
My son started doing cyber school 1 month ago at the middle of the school year and he has a very hard time with French. He did his first semester of French at the school and his grades were always A+ but what he had learned at school was far behind of the second semester at cyber school. Carol started tutoring my son and he learned in two weeks with her what he had not learned in 5 months at school.
We chose her due to proximity. She was difficult to get times, dates etc. Then she changed them, she couldn't remember my sons name she kept calling him my name and vise versa. She finally came for the first lesson (average) and got lost the second lesson. We live 3 miles from her. No showed called me from her house because she got lost. Quit over the phone leaving us high and dry. Find some one else don't use her!
Carol is a great tutor. Her expansive knowledge of French and her teaching methods have helped my daughter develop her pronunciation and reading skills. She supplies excellent reading and listening materials which have expanded my daughter's knowledge of the French language. She is very patient and an excellent resource. I recommend her to anyone without reservations.
Carol is a really great tutor. She gives books and homework for her student. She is one of the kindest people you would ever meet. She tries so hard to make things clear for her students. She comes on time and spend the time really wisely with the student.
I've been tutored in French by Carol for several months now. My progress has been slow, but this is not due to her ability to teach and challenge students but rather my negligence of doing homework. She is very good at guiding a student along at his or her pace while also simultaneously challenging them beyond their capabilities, thus making them want to work harder. I am studying French so that I'll have a basic reading ability should I go back to graduate school for History. She's also helped me in my listening and speaking abilities. It's a struggle but she makes it fun, and I walk away from every lesson knowing a little bit more French. Some people can grasp the language quickly, others progress slowly and steadily, it often depends on how much homework you are willing to do. She understands that each student is different, and works with you wherever you are at, all the while trying to guide you to the next level.
I can not thank Carol enough for job she did in tutoring a student here at Green Valley Academy. She was always punctual, professional, creative, and enthusiastic. I have worked in education for 38 years and enjoyed working with her believe she is a fantastic tutor.
Carol tutored my son for about 3 months earlier in the year. The results have been fantastic. My son's SAT score increased by more than 180 points in the short 3 month period. I definitely plan to have Carol help him again in the summer.
Here are some of the quotes from my son:
Carol was "very friendly and encouraging, always pointing out the progress I made, making me wanting to learn more."
Carol was "dedicated, checking up on my progress even during the weekdays."
I would recommend Carol as a tutor to any parents who want to improve their children's writing and reading skills, particularly for SAT and/or ACT preparation. She has definitely produced exceptional results for my 10th grader.
Carol is a great tutor. She is patient, but does expect results. She does a great job of bringing new and interesting material into lessons. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn French.
I enjoy having Carol as a teacher. I know I have many problems learning, but she is so patient, willing to help, always a smile on her face. When my homework is not completely learned as it should be, I am not nervous about it, like I would be with others. She is a ray of sunshine. I feel great after my lesson. I want to learn, and I am trying my best. I am an old bird, and I think this is why it is harder for me. Carol is a great teacher, and many would have an advantage if they had her for a teacher. She makes learning fun, and she is very knowledgeable.
Carol is a wonderful tutor. Not only does she know her subject thoroughly, but she brings a great attitude to each session. She also brings and shares many material resources, and clearly prepares a lesson plan for each week.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
English has always been my favorite subject. Without good English, I could not have had the professional success that I have had for over 25 years. It may not be your favorite subject, but I can promise that someone who has a good vocabulary, knows how to spell well, and gets a good score in school assessment writing and reading tests (like the ACT and SAT) will have a big advantage over the students who do poorly in those tests. They are more likely to spell well, learn new words quickly, improve their writing and reading faster, and find learning easier. Let me help you get higher scores in ACT English!
English, French, and Writing were my favorite subjects in school and my communication skills have allowed me to be successful in my professional life in three countries! I love tutoring language skills, because they are necessities regardless of what field students enter. Nothing in your professional lives will be more important to you than your ability to communicate. All jobs require good language skills, so I'm delighted to be able to share what I've learned with students and help them to develop or sharpen their own talents.
I've often tutored students for whom English is a second language, and I've been an English copyeditor for foreign authors for 25 years, as well as a French translator. I speak some Spanish and am currently tutoring a Romanian woman in York, PA.
I've been a French translator for 25 years, ever since I returned from Paris, where I lived for 9 years. I enjoy tutoring in French and have worked with students of all ages for purposes ranging from fun to business.

I consider myself truly privileged to have been exposed to both English and French Literature. The large number of books, poems, and articles I've had to read in my college and career have truly enriched my life. I would welcome a chance to tutor a literature student who is having trouble with the subject, or is unaware of how fascinating it can be.
I've been using MS WORD continuously since 1985. First, I was using on a Classic Mac and then switched to PCs around 1990. I've been tested in MS Word by three employment agencies while looking for a second part-time job during the economic crisis, and received grades of between 80 and 90% proficiency. I should mention that I don't own MS Word 2007 but have been using Ms Word 2003 with 2007 compatibility.

Spelling is my favorite subject, and the one that has been the most beneficial skill in my professional life. Because I spell well, I can learn new words quickly. As an English editor and French translator, I can think of no skill that I needed more, or have used more in the last 25 years. Spelling well is crucial for a student, too. Without it, writing becomes a really tough obstacle to getting good grades and a good job. I can help you improve your spelling, and thus literally help you to improve your life and your income!
I've had training in prepping students for SATs, PSATs, GREs and many other types of scholastic assessment tests. Those tips and techniques, as well as my 8+ years of experience as a tutor, give me confidence that I can help you do well in these exams.
I'm told that my vocabulary is above-average. If this is true, I have my Mother to thank, because she would never let me read a book without a dictionary within reach. I'm so glad she taught me that, because good reading and writing depend on a good vocabulary. As a tutor, I believe it is really true that the more words you know, the better you write, speak, and understand others. So I would encourage you by every means I know to look up words unfamiliar to you so you can improve your communication skills.
