I have over 42 years of sewing experience, having been raised in an apparel environment all my life. My family had been involved in the apparel business as a sewing contractor and as a dress store owner. I started to sew as a young boy, spending time at the factory and the store. While at college, Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, majoring in Apparel Management I had the chance to teach sewing at the high school lever while I was in my senior year.
I went on to work with some of the best apparel companies in the business,(John Logan, Country Miss, Russ Togs, Burberry). All along increasing my apparel talents in design, pattern making, production and quality control.
My biggest achievement was running a design and sample room with 6 sewing sample makers. I have instructed sewing in various fields from men's and women's wear, to upholstery, awnings, Longaberger basket linings, home furnishings. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a sample room in my house with all industrial machines (Single Needle, Merrow, Lewis Blind Hemmer, Reece Buttonholer). I have made patterns and sewn the following items: women's sportswear and dresses, Longaberger Basket Liners, Slip Covers, Chair Pads, Drapery, Home Furnishings, Purse Patterns, and Men’s Tailored Suits. I have worked at Ross Upholstery and Burberry Inc. as a Technical Designer/Pattern Maker.
