About Julie

Hello,

My name is Julie F. I just became a stay at home mom to my 6 month old son after teaching as a Special Education teacher for 7 years. I am certified in both Elementary and Special Education and have my Masters as well. I am very confident that I can help your child in a variety of areas including: phonics, reading comprehension, math, and writing! I have 7 years of tutoring experience and have had a great success with all my students. What makes me stand out is that I cater for your child's specific needs and I am passionate in finding ways to make learning easy for any child I work with!

I am very familiar with Common Core math standards and with the traditional way of teaching math. I think that I am an exceptional math tutor because as a Special Education teacher for 7 years I've really established a great way to help any child learn, whether they are below or above grade level!

I am very confident with my ability to tutor a student in ELA. I have a lot of experience tutoring students with reading disabilities so I specialize in teaching phonics and reading comprehension. I also have really great techniques to improve reading fluency.

I have worked with students with a variety of different disabilities including: Autism, reading/math/writing disability, emotional disability, intellectually disabled, visual impairments, etc. I am confident I can meet a child's needs where they are and cater to their very specific needs!

Please contact me if you are interested in learning more about me and what I have to offer! I know I will be a great match for any student and am confident I can help any student achieve!!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I worked as a Special Education teacher for 7 years and had many students with IEP's for Other Health Impairment with ADD/ADHD. I am very confident in working with these students and using strategies to meet their needs.

Dyslexia

I am currently a stay at home mom but taught 7 years as a Special Education teacher. I have had lots of experience specifically working with students who have dyslexia and I used the Wilson reading program to tutor them and it worked really well and they made a ton of progress. I also have experience using specific fonts that work with dyslexia as well as online programs that read textbooks to students so they could participate in the regular education classroom.

Elementary (K-6th)

I worked as a Special Education teacher for 7 years in a co-teaching environment so I basically taught half the time with regular education teachers. I am also certified in Elementary Education as well. Not only do I feel confident teaching in these areas, I also am very familiar with Common Core standards and various curriculum such as Everyday Math, Envision, SFA, Journey's, etc

Phonics

I have taught 7 years as a Special Education Teacher. In these positions I worked with students with reading disabilities who specifically struggled with Phonics. I worked with the program Wilson and FUNdations to help these students to achieve. I am able to do a small short test to see what exact phonics skills students need to master and I have programs and materials for them to be able to improve their phonics.

Special Needs

I spent 7 years as a Special Education teacher and worked in a co-teaching environment. I worked with students that had a variety of different disabilities including but not limited to: Autism, learning disabilities in math/reading/writing, ADD/ADHD, emotional disabilities, Auditory Processing Disorder, etc. I wrote hundreds of IEP's and actually specifically tutored students to meet their needs. I have had experience seeing students go from performing below grade to then achieving on grade level or above.
