In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as a Special Education teacher for 7 years and had many students with IEP's for Other Health Impairment with ADD/ADHD. I am very confident in working with these students and using strategies to meet their needs.
I worked as a Special Education teacher for 7 years in a co-teaching environment so I basically taught half the time with regular education teachers. I am also certified in Elementary Education as well. Not only do I feel confident teaching in these areas, I also am very familiar with Common Core standards and various curriculum such as Everyday Math, Envision, SFA, Journey's, etc
I have taught 7 years as a Special Education Teacher. In these positions I worked with students with reading disabilities who specifically struggled with Phonics. I worked with the program Wilson and FUNdations to help these students to achieve. I am able to do a small short test to see what exact phonics skills students need to master and I have programs and materials for them to be able to improve their phonics.
I spent 7 years as a Special Education teacher and worked in a co-teaching environment. I worked with students that had a variety of different disabilities including but not limited to: Autism, learning disabilities in math/reading/writing, ADD/ADHD, emotional disabilities, Auditory Processing Disorder, etc. I wrote hundreds of IEP's and actually specifically tutored students to meet their needs. I have had experience seeing students go from performing below grade to then achieving on grade level or above.
